numb3rs100 300 Prompt Celebration Bunny Hutch (Het). The request: David/any female character, David has finally found the one. Seeing as I haven't written a drabble since July 2010, nor any fic since October 2010, I thought maybe I should post this. I hope you enjoy.
Disclaimer: If you recognize it, regrettably - it's not mine.
It was the damnedest thing, David thought and shifted his weight. He wouldn’t admit it but he’d searched for "the one" since moving to LA. And she’d been there for years - right in front of him. How had he missed it?
Sure, her smile always warmed his heart and any time she laughed, he swore he heard angels. But didn’t that happen when a friend was happy?
Um. No. He certainly didn’t hear angels when Colby laughed, shuddering at the thought as he looked to his best friend beside him.
It wasn’t until he considered a transfer to DC that he saw her, really saw her. The thought of leaving her had nearly broken his heart. It was strange to think he could easily leave the FBI and all he knew, spreading his wings to fly from under Don’s lead. But the thought that kept him grounded was he couldn’t leave her.
That’s when he knew. Promotions would come and go but there was only one of her. The day he saw the light, he made two phone calls: one to DC to say “Sorry” and the other to her to ask her out for a drink.
The drink turned to dinner. Dinner turned to cuddling on his couch. Cuddling turned to a rather heated night between the sheets of his bed. A night turned into a month. That month turned into a year.
Now here he stood, taking a deep breath to clear all other thoughts from his mind. Music carried over the salty air on the otherwise deserted stretch of beach and when he looked up, there she was… in a gown of white with a flower in her hair. The world went silent when she smiled at him. All that existed was Liz. His only. The one.
