Oh I know, but still, it just rings so true to the industry in general, pro or not. I've seen my fair share of rinky dink little shows and those guys put forth just as much, if not more effort for the sparse crowds. Makes me kinda sad actually.
Not much into wrestling myself, despite the fact that the herd of teenage boys I used to hang with were HUGE wrestling fans and went so far as to pair off and fight in the basement where we idled away much of our youth. As the sole girl in the group, they explicitly excluded me from such delights as breaking the fake-wood wall panelling with my head, so I just watched. A lot. No wonder I'm writing slash about aggressive blokes. *facepalm*
But I digress - I really did want to see this flick, and your description of it just totally sells me, it sounds gritty and real and fantastic. And omg, glad you got to see that Watchmen trailer, doesn't it look utterly brilliant? Just finished reading the graphic novel and I really can't wait to see how the film version works out, it's a great bit of storytelling on the page anyway :D
LOL, yeah, funny that the connection didn't quite click until I was describing that phase of my formative years. Tutoring an all-male House at that English boarding school probably didn't help either :P
I'm too cheap/poor to have bought Watchmen myself, thankfully it was a belated Christmas gift from one of my many male friends, the clever lad. I'm not sure how many of the techniques in the GN (the archival excerpts between chapters, the meta-narrative about the shipwrecked guy who goes insane) could ever be carried over into film form, but the visuals from the trailer are plenty compelling enough, eh? And I think your JDM was very well-cast indeed :)
I skipped the post just to say I'm DYING to see The Wrestler, but everyone I mention it to just goes "really?!", so I've not been yet. I take it that it's worth a watch?
Oh, woman. No time to read or chat --- must go home, must sleep in own bed, must have hot toddy and dry out --- but I wanted to let you know that I saw a guy on Friday night as I was picking up groceries who looked just like the guy that was the dad on early seasons of Supernatural. The only difference is that he was a little darker. Drool city.
Mickey Rourke. He used to give me the heeby jeebies and want to take a shower. Maybe he won't anymore?

Rourke is still perfectly creepy bit it fits this new role, you know?

If he's like he's always been, yes, I know. I'll try to see him this time --- older, wiser (him and me), possible less icked-out.
