Well, for right now, the zombies aren't much of a nuisance. So it's a good time to look around and explore a bit.

That's true. Any recommendations for sights I should see?

Probably... the Mess Hall, the Hospital, the Library, and the Caves. Those are all important to know aside from your cabin.
