[at the center of camp today, there is something that looks like a ball pit, but instead of it being filled to the brim with balls, there are smaller objects: jelly beans. they're of a wide variety of colors (and tastes) and a boy with black hair and glasses just successfully yanked himself out of it

I'm a mutant. Evolved humans. We have something called the X-Gene that gives us all special abilities.

No, we all look different...the X-Gene affects everyone differently. Most mutants look like normal humans.

Is it ... harder for you, then? Or does everyone understand anyway?

Other mutants are cool with it...and people that don't like mutants won't like any mutant, no matter what they look like.

In some ways it's a little easier, probably. Because I know right away if someone's a mutant hater. I don't have to come out first.
