Ah, even better than I was hoping for! Loved the metaphor of the mirror running through it, and some absolutely perfect Liebgott characterisation...
What I love most about your prose is how it's narrative, and plot-driven, but still beautiful. So well-paced, with added elegance and sadness thrown in.
Especially liked the flashback to Haguenau, really liked the contrast between grudging admiration and residual bitterness.
Basically, A LOT OF LOVE and I am just on my way to read the next two parts!

Awh, Joe!! I loved this little sentence
in the meantime, Joe had Christenson’s incredulous glare to stand up to.
“This is what you wanted, isn’t it?” Liebgott challenged. “You wanted me here and now I’ll take care of him.”
Ooh, i can totally see Liebgott's angry little look here! This was a great little chapter and i'm off to read the next one!!
