After handing Joan over to Kawalsky, Cameron returned to their room. He took a deep breath as he regarded the mess on his side of the room. For some reason it had been growing the last couple of days. At least with people being in the cabin, Kawalsky wouldn't have to deal with all the boxes and bags ( Read more... )

Parker decided to skip most, if not all, of the festivities in the park, but had a few people she had to say good-bye to today.

"Hey, Cam-boy."

"Yo, Parkie!" Cameron said from where he was sitting on the ground, sorting through the DVDs and trying to figure out which were his and which were Kawalsky's.

"So you're almost out of here?" Parker grinned, leaning against the doorframe as she surveyed the boxes. "Think you're ready for the Academy yet?"

"I don't think you can get more ready than this," he assured her with a broad grin. "You gonna have my back and watch out for us crazy wannabe hero folk?"

"Got that right," Parker said, wandering in to stand next to him, hands on hips. "Can't let the hero types get lost in a jungle or on some weird planet for lack of transport and supplies, can we?" She grinned lightly, then held out a bottle of scotch. "Contraband where you're going, I know. But you can keep it to celebrate with when you graduate."

He grinned and got up from the floor before he accepted the bottle. "I hope you're planning on drinking it with me," he told her.

"Wouldn't miss it for the world. If I'm lucky, I'm out of Oxford in three years, so it won't even conflict with my own graduation." She grinned at him, shaking her head. "We've come a long way, haven't we. Who am I going to dress up as a superhero now? I ask you."

"You'll find someone," he chuckled. "But if you need a drinking buddy to hit the karaoke bars with, you should come visit me in Colorado. Once they let me out, anyway."

"I think that a term break visit to Colorado Springs is a must," Parker decided. "Oxford's got three semesters and a long summer. So count on seeing me in there a couple times. And you should come visit when they let you out!" she added. "Wear shades. We'll tell everyone that you're a secret government agent. It'll do wonders for my rep there."

Cameron laughed. "Already using my cadet status?" he teased. "I should have some time off around Christmas and then Spring break," he said.

"Perfect. Oxford's gorgeous in Spring, I'm told." She smiled, shook her head, and then took his hand, swinging it a little. "Won't be the same, having school without you. But I'm very glad we got to be friends."

He squeezed her hand lightly. "Same. You're not that bad, Parker. Don't let your dad run your life for you. You know what's good for you without him."

"Yeaaah." Parker smiled at him and said, lips twitching, "It was an honor being interned with you in this place. You have all my best wishes going with you, Cameron."

"Same, but with slightly less fancy words," he grinned and taking a risk, he stepped forward to hug her.

And because this was the last time, and because it felt right, she let him. And even hugged back.

"You be careful out there, Cameron Mitchell. Don't make me track you down in a hospital," she said when she finally pulled away.

"Definitely," he promised. "Katara already threatened me with a scolding if I get myself hurt," he said, sounding rather amused about that. "You don't forget to have fun on your way to the top."
