Thankyou so much, I'm really glad all the little details and the back story worked for you (research so much more worthwhile when people notice! :) )

This is what happens when you try to get Merlin to Lycia to meet Nicholas' ghost, decide to send him on a quest with Lancelot and can only recall the quest for the Holy Grail in relation to Arthurian legends. (Lancelot starting the Crusades? Do not want.) Then I thought, ooh relics were popular for quests, that would be a good way to have Merlin meet a ghost. And then Merlin in my head went 'ewww bodysnatching' and then it snowballed off into problematic Christian conversion (all that subtext about the 'Old Religion', stuff about druid massacres, burning at the stake and Morgana and Merlin being played by an Irish actress and a Northern Irish actor) and yeah... Also griffins are awesome...

Oh that was quite intriguing. I like how you wove it all together in such a plausible way... hmmnh, I'm thinking the Druids really would/did/do hate St Patty

Enjoyed it immensely thank you.

Thankyou, I'm glad you enjoyed this.

(I would imagine he's not exactly their favourite saint! I used to know quite a few pagans/wiccans back in the day who considered the snakes thing pretty much genocide of their spiritual forefathers and wore black in memory on St Patrick's Day.)

Oh mystery author, you've given me such a huge grin I can't seem to wipe it off my face. This is one of the few stories I've ever read in this fandom that really felt set in its time and connected to the wider world. There were so many wonderful details - how the quest is as much to get Merlin out of the way as it is to placate Uther, the way the two of them divvy up the roles, Morgana as a warrior!Queen (okay, I'm kind of in love with that idea anyway), interfaith politics - wow, it was too much to list! And then, you know, organges! And griffins! ♥

*grins back at you* I had so much fun writing this and figuring out how to get the histories to fit (I never knew there was so much debate around the Byzantine Empire and whether it should actually be known as that and if so, when it actually was that *gestures helplessly*) and what present day countries were called in the 6th century. Also quests are morally dubious but Lancelot is completely willing to do them anyway if they keep Merlin safe. (Fandom does not give me enough Merlin&Lancelot friendship fic, so I gave up and wrote my own...)

I love Morgana as warrior!Queen I couldn't resist putting her in there. Oranges and griffins are a surprisingly popular combination! :)
