I loved this. I loved how he told Arthur off and Annis, too. I don't know how he'd explain Ragnor's death and his own absence but boy it's marvelous.

Merlin's rant is something I wish we could have seen in the show, and even after this chapter I don't feel entirely finished with it (magic is still banned, after all), so there will probably be more like it soon.

It was fun to have him interact with someone like himself, someone who had suffered like him, and in his old man disguise, he could do so freely.

great update. arthur's and merlin's pain are palpable and i feel for both of them. i love that arthur is able to see through dragoon's facade. and i discover every time i read fics like this how much i need merlin to be able to tell arthur some truths he didn't know... like uther's death and all the times arthur has been saved by magic.

It was sad that the boys didn't get more time to talk before the end, but I think Arthur understood the heart of it, how Merlin had always protected him and fought for him, and of course, when Arthur comes back, they will have lots of time to talk it all through.

This was wonderful! I've been looking forward to more of this story and each update leaves me wanting more. I really feel for both Arthur and Merlin. Their fears and pain and difficulties are very understandable but definitely make me worry where it's taking them.

The path they are on is definitely going to get darker before it gets brighter, and of course, at the end of it lies Arthur's bane, but hey, even I don't know how it's going to end. Anything can happen.
