The thing about being reincarnated is that you have no clue just who (or what) you’ll be in the next life. Sure, it was easy for Merlin. He had magic. He could adapt. But Arthur had no magic. He couldn’t make something float or move in a flash of gold and suddenly remember like Merlin could. He didn’t even have the dreams of their past lives like Morgana. No, Arthur had to remember the old fashioned way, like any person with amnesia. Slowly, frustratingly slowly. Sometimes not at all. And the worst part? Arthur just had to remember everything when they’d been reborn as-get this-brothers.

“Arthur! Let her go!”
Arthur snickered as he watched his little brother struggle with the Barbie doll that was held fast in Arthur’s much larger hand.
“Come on Merlin. Try harder, I know you can do better that that!” Arthur was about as annoying as they came when it came to older brothers. He delighted in picking on his younger siblings, especially Merlin. There was just something about him when he got that little moue of irritation. Arthur did everything he could to bring it out.
Just then Merlin yelled out, “Gana! Arfur won’t let go of Sophie! He won’t give her back!”
“Don’t call me that you little brat!” Arthur almost let go of the doll in his annoyance. Merlin knew he hated being called that. Just because Merlin couldn’t say his full name when he was little did not mean it became a nickname!
Morgana threw her head back and laughed. “Oh Arfur,” Because, really, he hated that nickname. “Stop tormenting the poor boy, will you? You’ve been picking on him for years. It’s a wonder he even still likes you. Give it back, you loony.”
“Fine.” Arthur made a face at his older sister as she went along her merrily way to who-knew-where and relinquished the doll to Merlin’s little grabby hands. Almost immediately Merlin grabbed her out of Arthur’s hand and hugged her to his chest, brushing her synthetic hair back into place and straightening her tiny clothes. Then he turned his big, blue eyes up to glare at Arthur.
And with a muttered “Prat” he flounced off up to his room, leaving Arthur alone with the creeping sensation of déjà vu. Arthur shook his head, trying to get rid of the vague images that suddenly flooded his brain just then. Really, who even cared about knights and dragons any more when there were so many cooler things these days? Like girls and cars and… bugging your little brother to death.
