Author's Notes: Oops, I kind of forgot to sign up for last week! This drabble is a tie in for two other drabbles I've written that had the mentioning of Merlin and Mordred being ''enemies'' or Arthur and Merlin having a fight over Merlin's past with Mordred--which is more linked to this one than the school one. (link:
Perhaps He Wasn't Ready Yet). I plan on writing this story throughout the rest of the month for these sins, so this will be a to-be-continued story! enjoy this drabble!~
One pint won’t do it. For this problem, there must be more than one pint of beer. Merlin plans on spending the whole day drinking until he is drunk and useless.
There wasn’t any real problem-Merlin just felt terrible today. Well, that and the fact that his sister Morgana had ‘’disowned’’ him and kicked him out of her house, claiming to not be able to deal with his depression anymore.
“When I next see your sorry ass around, you better be happier and in a career!”
Merlin winced, remembering those words. Morgana could be self-absorbed at times but this was something new. After all, she was letting him stay at her house for a while until he got a job..which never happened.
God, I’m such a pitiful fuck… Merlin took a big gulp of his drink and took out a wallet from the pocket of his jeans, fishing out a five dollar bill.
He finished off his drink and eyed the television, which was getting ready to play foot ball. Which also meant that there will be more customers flooding inside of Kilgharrah’s Drinks.
“Another pint, please,” Merlin asked the waitress, “Same as usual. He slid the five across the black ceramic counter top of the bar and thanked the woman-who looked to be about twenty three, give or take a few. Merlin twirled around in his stool to face the TV so he would not look like a jobless man out to get drunk. Except that was exactly who Merlin was tonight.
“Tough day?”
Merlin turned around and saw a man sitting on a stool next to him. He had curly, dark brown hair resting on his forehead, cold blue eyes, and soft pink lips that formed into a smile, along with barely noticeable stubble along his chin and jaw line. There was also a pint of beer in his hand.
“I suppose you could call it that, yeah,” Merlin answered, turning to face the man.
“I’m Mordred Druiden,” The man held out his hand and Merlin shook it, which felt rough and calloused. Merlin guessed that he worked out at construction or some sort. He definitely didn’t look to be one for working in the office.
Merlin swallowed, “Merlin Emrys. I’ve never seen you around before...are you new?”
“New to the area? No. And I’m not new to this bar either. I just don’t normally come out here on Friday nights.”
“Then are you also having a tough day?”
“Mm...no, I’m not. Just felt like having a drink or two tonight at this bar. Meaning I go to different bars on Fridays,” Mordred said.
“I guess this isn’t the best bar around…” Merlin took a sip of his beer.
“So what brings you around here? What’s the problem?”
“My sister kind of kicked me out of her house. Serves me right, though…”
“What? No no, you don’t seem like the kind of fellow who would deserve anything like that,” Mordred said in disbelief.
“Would you change your mind if I told you that I have no job so I’ve been living off of my sister with greed due to wanting to use her money for movies and beer, and that I am also depressed?” Merlin asked.
Mordred shook his head. Merlin noticed that there were more people standing around this bar with glasses of alcohol in their hand. Some were dancing around whatever space they could find, and some were just sitting at tables with friends. Then there were the folk who came to Kilgharrah’s Drinks to watch the football games and to eat the greasy bar food that the employees served.
“What you need, my friend, is to just lay back and take a break from life. Then you can come back to your problems with a better attitude and hopefully fix them. I can’t help you get a job, or permanently fix your depression, but I can always help you with taking a break from life for a small while.
“Tell you what. I live in a single apartment. You can come live there with me for now until you get out of this hole you’ve dug yourself into. Don’t worry about being greedy. I have plenty of money,” Mordred offered.
Merlin widened his eyes in surprise, “I couldn’t possibly do that! I barely know you and now you’re just going to let me stay at your house? I could be a criminal for heaven’s sake!”
Mordred smiled, “I have enough trust in you,” His knee was touching Merlin’s, “Let’s finish these drinks and I can help you move into my apartment, yeah?”
“Okay.”
****
“Well that was easy,” Mordred said.
“I don’t have that much stuff,” Merlin shrugged.
Two hours before, Mordred had led Merlin to his black prius and Merlin directed Mordred to Morgana’s house. Luckily he still had the key to her house and was able to sneak inside (Morgana and Leon were not at their house at the moment) and take his clothes and hygienics. He left the key on top of their coffee table and left.
Now Merlin stood inside of Mordred’s apartment. It was big and spacious, and had some sort of smell to it that Merlin could not define. There were two couches surrounding a small Television, and beside those there was a walk-in kitchen. Merlin guessed that Mordred did not know how to cook. If you were to walk a small way past the kitchen there was a bathroom connected to a bedroom.
“Thank you so much,” Merlin said, ever so thankful for his new friend. He was not exactly too sure of whom Mordred really was, but he had helped Merlin find a place to sleep at for a few days. Where he would sleep, Merlin was not sure but that would be solved later on.
“Hey, it’s no biggy,” Mordred said with a smile. That was the moment that Merlin decided that Mordred would be a very trusted and close friend with him. After all, he seems like a very nice person. But that was also the moment that Merlin had made the worst decision of his life.
