Author's Notes: It's been too long since I've written Morgana.

Morgana hates Arthur. But only sometimes.

It’s just- he has his career, and his gorgeous girlfriend, and Morgana’s struggling in university debt doing what she wants for much less money than she’d expected, waiting for her trust fund to mature. And she’s painfully, achingly single.

Arthur, on the other hand, is being flown out to god-knows-where for a few weeks once every few months and doing a bit of espionage, a bit of shooting and seducing, all for the government and a large pay packet. And he’s dating Gwen, who Morgana’s pretty sure she fancies more than Arthur does.

It’s all wrong, she thinks. She’s a human rights lawyer, she’s doing good work. She should be the one with the salary you could buy mansions with and the pretty girlfriend on her arm. She’s tried everything. Dating websites, losing herself in Soho for a chance at the few girls who aren’t there purely as self-proclaimed ‘fag hags’. And yet she’s still single, still taking the tube to work, still living in a tiny house with single glazing and draughts you could easily mistake for arctic winds. Yes, sometimes she really hates Arthur.

Except for the small matter of the times when Arthur comes back, bruised and bloodied, or the times when he barely makes it back at all. Morgana can’t find it in herself to hate him then. Or sometimes, when she’s round his house for dinner, and she watches him staring wistfully at Gwen. But not like he wishes he was alone with her, or that they could make out right there and then. More like he wishes he knew what to do with her. Or wishes that he could love her.

Morgana notices these things. And, when she does, she can see that Arthur might hate her, too. But only sometimes.

More so, when she meets Mithian, who turns out to be her first girlfriend since university. And when, mere days later, Arthur meets Lancelot, and finds himself dancing around him, wanting so much, but never quite being able to take it. Perhaps Arthur really hates her then.

Later, after a two failed, secretive relationships (one adjective the cause of the other) with Lancelot then Gwaine, and one ongoing, hopefully to-be-secret-no-longer relationship with Merlin, when Morgana stands by Arthur’s side in front of Uther and throws expletives at him until he stops his tirade of abuse, assures him that Arthur is neither attention seeking nor going through a phase, and can cope very well without Uther if needs be, Morgana knows for certain that Arthur doesn’t hate her. Not one bit.
