Arthur yawned and rose from his bed as he looked out the window. “I am so glad it is finally spring,” he said to Merlin.

“Me too,” Merlin replied, moving to make Arthur’s bed. “My room is so drafty that winter was almost intolerable.”

“It looks like it will be nice enough to train outside today.” Arthur moved to his table where breakfast awaited.

“What else do you enjoy about spring?” Merlin asked.

“Trees growing leaves to provide shade for the summer.”

“Is that all?”

Arthur thought for a moment. “Yeah, that is pretty much it.”

“You don’t enjoy the wildflowers that grow along the roads? Or the sound of birds singing and insects buzzing through the air? How about the fact that we made it through a terrible winter?”

“Goodness, you’re poetic this morning. I suppose I do enjoy those things, but obviously not as much as you apparently do.”

“What’s that supposed to mean? I-” Merlin silenced himself with a sneeze.

“Ah, and there is yet another sign of spring. Your sneezing.”

Merlin wiped his nose on a handkerchief. “I still don’t understand how you’re not sneezing.”

“It is a gift.”

Merlin just glared at him. “Is there anything you require before training, sire?”

“Now that you mention it . . .”
