Merlin and Morgana strolled through the country fair, taking in the sights. “I’m glad you found out about this,” Merlin said, “this is a really great diversion.”

“I know,” Morgana replied, “I’ve always wanted to come to one of these, but Father never let us. ‘Too parochial’ he’d say.”

Merlin slipped his arm around her waist. “We’re here now. Let’s have some fun. What would you most like to do?”

“I’ve always wanted someone to play one of those games and win me a huge stuffed animal.”

“I can do that. Let’s find one you like.”

After walking for a few minutes, they found a game booth with a giant stuffed unicorn hanging inside it. “That one!” Morgana pointed to a game with lots of little targets that wave back and forth.

“All right. I’ll give it a shot.”

They walked to the booth and asked the rules. The man behind the counter explained that they’d get three balls. In order to win a prize, they had to hit a target with each of the balls. If they wanted the unicorn, they’d have to do this three times in a row.

Merlin gulped. Those were pretty stringent rules and he had little experience with this type of game. But he plunked down his money and took the three balls in his hands. He studied the waving targets for a moment then threw the first ball. It connected and Morgana cheered. He threw the second and missed, but the third one connected. Morgana clapped but Merlin held up his hand. With his other hand, he plunked down more money on the counter. “Again,” he said.

It took many more tries and a lot more money before Merlin made the nine shots in a row. Morgana threw her arms around him and have him a sweet little kiss. The man handed down the giant unicorn and Merlin gave it to Morgana. “Thank you, love,” she said, taking his hand.

As they walked away, Merlin whispered, “I could have bought that for less at any store.”

Morgana whispered back, “I know, but this way was a lot more fun wasn’t it? And you fulfilled one of my childhood dreams.”

Merlin grinned. “Yeah, I did, didn’t I?”

Morgana squeezed his hand and together they walked through the rest of the fair, enjoying its sights and sounds. The giant unicorn held the place of honor on their bed.
