Bad news II

Uther looked over the crowd. As every year, he’d gathered his most valuable customers and business affiliates for a barbeque. Of course, he expected his children to be there, too. But that also made him a bit nervous. They seemed to think that this was a good opportunity to give him any odd news they had about their private lives.

It had taken him a while to get over the fact that his son and heir preferred men. It was not what he had wished for, but it seemed to make Arthur happy, so he tried to deal with it. Even when he had told him that he asked his…friend…to live with him. And last year, his beloved daughter had slapped him in the face with the news that she was pregnant. Pregnant and unmarried. No matter how much he tried to convince her, she wouldn’t reveal her son’s father. And no matter how much he tried not to like that little boy, the baby had smiled at him once and immediately captured his heart.

Uther saw Arthur approaching him, a nervous looking young man with unruly black hair and sticking out ears following him. Oh no, what would the news be this time?

“Father, I would like you to meet Merlin, my husband.”

Holding his breath for a moment, Uther just stared. So this was the bloke who’d ruined all of his plans for Arthur having a normal family. And…what was that? Husband??? He glanced from Arthur’s hand to Merlin’s. Matching rings. But that didn’t mean anything, did it? Maybe his son just called the other man that? Then again, the looks Arthur threw him and the way he looked at Arthur…oh well, as long as they were happy.

Uther let out a long suffering sigh. “Merlin, it’s a pleasure meeting you. At least you’re not pregnant, are you?”
