Smaller scale, but still a really good place is Inman Hardware. There is an older portugese man who is really good with old houses. I walked in there with half of a 80 year old kitchen faucet, and they were able to find a replacement. It didn't even require moving the pipes to connect it (was a non-standard spacing)

Masse is an old-time hardware store, where the staff can provide DIY help and real advice. Usually has that hard to find hardware.
