Calufrax is moving to Dreamwidth

Jan 23, 2017 12:14

Our poll results were conclusive: you voted 3:1 to move us to Dreamwidth. So, on February 27, we'll relaunch at calufrax.dreamwidth.org, which is already restyled and fully imported with the LJ archives.

Hurrah! I'll see you on Dreamwidth, and I'll try to set myself up for reccing. It's been too long, and I should get involved again.

You won't even be crossposting to LJ? I don't use Dreamwidth or RSS, so no more calufrax for me :(

I can crosspost for a little while, but it has to be done by hand; unlike personal journals, communities can't automatically crosspost from Dreamwidth.

Each new entry in the RSS feed I set up will show up as an ordinary entry on your flist once you subscribe to the feed -- you don't need a special reader of any kind. That's why it's a better long-term solution than crossposting by hand.

You actually may be able to crosspost via IFTTT-over at het_reccers, where I'm a mod, we've gotten it to work from Tumblr to LJ that way, using LJ's post-by-email feature (which does work for communities) as the conduit. The only catch is that (at least from Tumblr) the formatting doesn't always hold up, which we've been fixing manually. And tags don't cross over at all. But it's certainly better than having to manually crosspost everything-or miss an entry!

Do you mind explaining how you imported your archives over to DW? We'd been talking about doing that for a while, and automating it would certainly be preferable. Thanks :)

Ohhhh, that's a very interesting workaround for community crossposting! Thank you -- I may just give that a shot!

Importing the archives to DW was easy, because the regular DW importer will import communities as well, provided the same account owns the communities on LJ and DW. Instructions are here.

very cool! now we just need an event to encourage folks who have been posting their dw fic in other places to archive it at teaspoon! i will begin trying to get my Ao3 friends to start cross-posting (and work on uploading a few of my fics that haven't made it over to teaspoon yet...).

Yes! Please do! Though of course I also need to work on the Great Mobile-Friendly Redesign Project of 2017 (which was supposed to be the Great Mobile-Friendly Redesign Project of Late 2015, and then 2016 happened ...).

Joined over on DW.

Will the lj comm still exist if you no longer post to it or will it be purged?

Thanks for joining over on DW! The LJ version of the comm will continue to exist; I'm not planning to purge it.
