YES!!!! I THINK I BLATHERED ABOUT THIS IDEA ON THE TRAIN BUT IT TOOK ME A WHILE TO GET IT DOWN AND OH MY GODDDDDD

BECAUSE JACOB IS ALWAYS LOOKING FOR MEANING IN THINGS but this happens no matter the variables, no matter how much either of them tries to avoid it; it's just chaos theory at work, right? Jacob tries to think of any scientific explanation and can come up with nothing that doesn't reek of experimenter bias.

Ugh, these two growing apart is just the most wonderfully painful thing to read. And Jacob just, he tries to make it better and only makes it worse, and I can never tell if Jimmy misinterprets Jacob's attempts or if he knows and rejects them. I think it's a bit of both, a desire for Jacob to help Jimmy instead of holding him back AND THAT'S WHAT THIS IS ABOUT, FINDING THE BASEBALL IN A METAPHOR FOR JIMMY WANTING JACOB TO HELP HIM FIND HIMSELF. Maybe.

MY HEART HURTS AT EVERYTHING THEY DO. Oh god yes, I need to write something from Jimmy's POV, because at least Jacob knows what he wants even if he can't get it, Jimmy doesn't know how he feels or what he's supposed to do about it or how to make it stop, and no matter what he chooses he seems to accidentally cut Jacob up from the inside out and he just, he can only see Jacob making that face so many times before he snaps. The person Jimmy most wants to punch in the mouth and leave behind is himself. AUUUUUGHHHHHH MY FEEEEEELIIIIINGGGGGGSSSSSSSDSDJHGLKFJGHDFLJK;
