Enough Already!

Enough September 11 already!  Since when did remembrance of a tragedy become media hype?!  Yes, I think we should have memorials, and I think we should have ceremonies and I think we should help out widows and orphans.  I don't even complain about long airport security lines or that obnoxious new machine that snaps little puffs of air at you.  But ( Read more... )

Has it been this hyped in past years or is it only because it's 5 and a "milestone" in some way? I just don't remember it being quite this sort of thrown at your from all sides kind of 9-11 info attack before. I've had quite enough.

You see my problem with Ted? It IS hard. Auror seems to be the "default" job in fanfiction when you can't think of anything else and I do want a wee bit of creativity. But he just doesn't have anything that makes me go "Yeah! That's perfect!" He's not a "sitting at a desk all day" sort of guy, but I can see the sort of public defender role...if they have that sort of thing, and one would imagine they do.

Why do people in DC never know what's going on in DC? I had no idea there were goings-on at the Uptown and I'm right by there.

Yes, I agree with you. This holiday (it was Independence Day over here) sort of brought me down, first with the cold, then the rain, then all things related to 9/11 popping left, right and centre. Yes, it was tragic and shouldn't be forgotten, but sometimes it simply gets overwhelming. I took refugee in reading scripts from CSI online, because for some reason I forgot I love this show and forgot to watch like half the last season. Ugh, must remember: Lost on Mondays, CSI on Tuesdays, and Grey's Anatomy and ER on Thursdays! Anyway ( ... )

I've played with the music idea too actually, but I can't seem to get it to take in my head. I think he'd quite like to be a curse-breaker or something along those lines, and he'd be good at it (think magical Indiana Jones)but then I doubt he would leave Andy and a little Nymphadora alone for long periods of time in the middle of the war. I think he could be a Healer, but then that might be just a little too much of them together, they're not a joined-at-the-hip type couple.

Although I too am obsessed with Grey's Anatomy and I worry about writing anything "hospital setting" into fanfiction for fear it becaomes "magical Grey's Anatomy."

Great Chapter! I'm glad you won the battle with it! And in answer to your plea, here are my T. Tonks Suggestions ( ... )

I think you hit on one of the things whioch is sticking me, is that he's the sort of guy who's going to want a career, rather than just a job. Aside from having ambition, he's also marrying someone who is used to throwing around money, and while she's definitely going to have to make some lifestyle adjustments, I get the impression of Tonks (Nymphadora, that is) as someone who grew up comfortably middle class, so we can assume they both have decent jobs.

At the moment I am leaning toward a lawyer-type thing, but maybe only because that's my world and so I can write it...

Absolutely! The money thing will be a HUGE issue. Andy is high-maintenance (by no fault of her own) but what makes it worse is that she is yet to realize it (again, through no fault of her own)...I mean if money was never a problem in your life then you wouldn't every think about it, really.

I see Ted as a lawyer. It suits his character--standing up for what he believes is right, not necessarily popular--and it also suggests why Dora would be interested in a career in law enforcement.

Also if you know about that type of career, all the better. Write what you know, they always say.

i loved the new chapter, it wasn't too bitchy lol.
ted's job?
he could really be difficult and work as a lawyer of sorts, who works on muggle rights. they would have had to come up with a bunch of new laws during the first reign of voldie, wouldn't they?

musically, perhaps he discovered the weird sisters?.. they aren't that old.
and go them going...

in the smart catagory, an unspeakable? or an auror, because they're cool, and like mkbosworth said, kids look up to their parents...
and follow their steps.

good luck

Hm, Lawyer seems to be the one coming up in all suggestions...yes hm. Oddly, I hadn't actually thought of that until last night but it follows as he'd be all about crusading for rights and suchlike.

Aurors are cool, but rather overused in fanfic, as the "it must be the coolest job ever if that's what Harry wants to do" infects the fandom.

This DOES help, much appreciated.

Hi, well, I agree with the one that said that Ted should have a career. Someone who succeeded pursuing a Black sister should success in his profesional life. I like to think they are wealthy ( ... )

Oh wow, the idea of him having trouble working in the Ministry never OCCURRED to me and it totally should have as it's a really good point! Not to mention a really good PLOT point which has me all in a spin!

Seriously, I LOVE your idea. I can see him starting out small and being fantastically succesful, (and I would so bring in Bloomsbury if I thought I could get away with it as that would be hilarious for the people who got it....)

Glad you liked it. Anytime.

I don't think that her being very capable with spells related to clothing implies she's not wealthy. We have seen that house-elves shouldn't touch cloth (not even accidentaly, remember Hermione's hats)and that makes me think that they make big laundry (sheets and similar)but not clothing. Maybe the three ladies are really skilled in folding socks...;)

I hadn't even considered the sock-folding skills actually...but I think the clothing idea is plausible, that house elves don't want to risk going anywhere near clothes. Additionally, it's entirely possible that they're very well off, but when they were first married Andromeda threw herself into an "ohmygod now I'm married and I have to learn all this stuff" when in reality she had no need for it, she just got excited.
