I also like fairly cosy and relaxing books at bedtime. I find 'The Ladies No1 Detective Agency' series by Alexander McCall Smith fits the bill very well. Worth trying if you haven't already done so.

Yes, I think books which deal with nice people (quite rare, really) and restore your faith in human nature are the ticket for calm and relaxation. I've read a lot of The Ladies books although AMS churns them out so quickly I can't keep up! They are a good choice and I find O Douglas fits the bill, too.
