Well done! My Googling got me nowhere. I think you're right and I'm not sure I want it where it is (says the person who has just decided to let plants do as they like in the garden). I'm surprised because I've often seen it growing wild by riverbanks and I thought it liked to be damp.
It makes a change to enjoy the highlights (which this evening clash with Gardeners' World, Grr.) Weather doesn't look good; I thought they weren't expecting rain until tomorrow.
I think you and mouse are right and it is Eupatorium. I wonder where on earth it came from? Maybe when the flowers are properly open, I'll see the busy pollinators at work.
