Fforde v. Ashley ext_392153 January 30 2022, 21:58:33 UTC
I used to love Katie Fforde but the last handful have been very feeble. Maybe she needed to jumpstart her routine with a new location? The setting is puzzling unless she is recreating a trip she made at that age. More surprising to me is the age of her heroine as one of the things my friends like about her books is the heroines are not usually in their 20s.

I think Ashley must not be published in the US (or if so, I haven't seen them) because I have only read one, A Winter's Tale, which I graded 3/5 stars. I will have to look for more as I find most authors who think they write humorous fiction are far less amusing than they realize!

I agree that Katie Fforde's early books are better than her later ones. I was surprised that Alexandra could be so competent when she was only twenty.

A Winter's Tale is the first of Trisha Ashley's Lancashire books. They're not a series, exactly, but some of the same characters keep cropping up. I like them.
