That BenMcIntyre book sounds fascinating. I read one of his so far and must get to reading some more.

I've read three now and found them all very good, even when I did know the outcome in advance, as with his book about Philby.

I've never been able to get into any Susan Hill crime books so wont be bothering with that one either!

I haven't read any of SH's mysteries, but I do so love her nonfiction! And Ben M - sometimes I think it would be so much fun to sit down and read all his books, one right after the other. Such a good writer and fascinating subjects!
Great review by the way.

I think most people who've read it like The Magic Apple Tree.

I love spy stories, true or fictional and MacIntyre's are very good.

Thank you!

I have found the last few Seraillers disappointing although I used to enjoy them. I just wish I wasn’t such a completist - I know i’ll end up reading this one too.

I also liked the books at first, for reasons I did give here at the time. Like you, I've found the later ones disappointing. I do enjoy the town life, the cathedral, all that stuff and I wish Cat could be my doctor.

I love thrillers and murder mysteries and I'm always looking out for new authors but I think I'll give Susan Hill a miss! The Ben Macintyre one sounds like a decent read.

There are many better murder mysteries out there for you. MacIntyre manages to make non-fiction read like a novel.
