I read Lucy Mangan's Bookworm over the Christmas holiday and concur with your review. I enjoyed the book but found all that constantly trying to be funny really irritating.
Our age and geographical gaps also meant I'd heard of hardly any of the picture books. They were published after my picture-book years, and then when I had my son, tended to read Aussie picture books.

I knew most of the picture books because my daughter was the right age for them. Shirley Hughes and Judith Kerr are stll favourites with her (and me)!
