Mr J’s Peony

Some years ago, I took over from a friend who was helping a very old man with his garden. Mr J had moved to Dorset on retirement and built an award winning garden from scratch. The way he’d planned out the garden from a bare plot round a bungalow was amazing, and he’d then filled it with unusual shrubs and perennials. By the time I knew him, he was ( Read more... )

Nice pictures. Love that delicate geranium and the colour of the peony is gorgeous. Ten years, is it as long as that? Nothing in the life of a garden though and well worth the wait.

I loved hearing about Mr J. He sounded like a right character. Your pictures of your flowers are lovely. I'm very fond of peonies as my dad grew them (huge deep red ones) along with lots of wallflowers so it always invokes memories when I see them. The white bleeding heart is lovely. We have pink ones here.

You are right that there is always something to look at when you have a garden :)

He certainly was a character! I expect your dad grew the old cottage garden favourites, the dark double ones. I used to have them and I like them just as much as any fancy variety.

Yes, it looks like spring, even if it doesn't feel like it.
I like the other name for the plant, 'Lady in the Bath', because of the way you can squeeze the flowers gently and open them. That works best with the pink one.
