I bought the Flavia books because I knew I'd want to read them again.

Wonderful review of Cathedral Wednesday Barbara, thank you! Like you, I enjoy ASIM the most, but think Miranda has the later ones so will eventually re-read. An impressive list of other books too!

Thank you! I was so impressed re-reading them. Does Miranda have Words and Music?

Yes I'm sure she does - will be in storage though. I got them years ago for her, but never read them all myself. In the post today a lovely dustwrapped copy (reprint tho) of New Friends for John and Mary - know you'll understand my excitement!

I simply can't decide which of the William Mayne books I like best - the one I'm reading at the time, I think. I love the way Sandy's loneliness in Chorister's Cake is handled - I was such an outsider at school that I must have identified very strongly when I first read it, and I think the end is tremendous, but Cathedral Wednesday makes me laugh and the relationships are wonderful.

These books are brilliant and absolutely the best things I read last month. If I were reading them for the first time I'd be stunned. Although I loved them as a child there's absolutely nothing nostalgic in my enjoyment of them now.
