Builders' gifts and Greek ones

Earlier this year I worked hard digging out the enormous weeds which the builders' topsoil was full of. I left a few 'weeds' which I thought would be nice if I remembered to pull them out before they seeded. They're the kind of thing you might see along the central reservation of a motorway.

Ah, the enormous thing is evening primrose! I usually haul it up whenever I see it, but missed a bit and I have a nice big flower of it this year.

They're scrubby looking in the wild but in garden soil they are rather splendid plants and I like the colour. Mustn't let it get a hold, though.
