Has anyone asked the people considering working with AFP what they think or is everyone just dogpiling on her?

Also, remember there are some people in even our local fandom that think guests at cons should work for nothing but the cost of their hotel room & plane ticket - practically for free. Is there that much difference?

People are just bringing a lot of their own issues to the mix, really. And TBH there's not a HuGE amount of noise that I've noticed, it's just something that crossed my radar.

So, I don't know?

It's cropped up several times on my fb the last few days. It's been interesting that some of the people I've seen bashing AFP have crowdsourced for their own work or done things using the 'room & travel costs, but no other pay' model themselves, but I guess it's ok when you're not famous. Been seeing the assumption that 'famous' = 'rich' too, which is not always true.

It seems mostly dogpiling to me. She has one of those personalities that I think is very polarising, quite a few of the comments I've seen have a kind of "hah, see, I've never liked her" vibe to them. Which is fine if you've never liked her, but not if it means spreading odd unhelpful nonsense about how the music industry works.

I've noticed the whole 'OMG volunteer labour how dare she' thing coming very loudly from people that not only regularly ask people to do professional level work for free (like being a con guest), but also do a huge amount of it themselves. Odd.

Most of the 'famous=rich' stuff seems to come from people who have absolutely no concept of music industry economics, too.
