Jun 30, 2009 15:24

A group of people was hit by lightning the other day during one of the summer thunderstorms. After some asking around, it turns out that many people don't know what to do in case a thunderstorm starts and they're outside. Since severe burn wounds or death by lightning are no fun at all, here's a compilation of things to do.

Okay, the electric field part is new to me... not sure how it works.
Wouldn't you have only one foot on the ground while running?

If you have metal things on you, put them away from you.
The myth busters busted the "If you have piercings you're more likely to be struck by lightning"-myth.

Yeah, I didn't really mean small metal things. I was thinking about hikers with pickaxes and bunches of metal hooks and stuff, or rods for a tent.

Oh, and I'm not a physicist. Maybe there is a specific way to run through a thunderstorm, I mean, if you manage to be in the air ALL the time you'd be totally safe! But I wouldn't risk it.
