Summary: The title says it all
A/N: For the Big Purple Army. After the last few days, I think we need and deserve this, don’t you? But no one deserves this more than Olivia and Natalia. *wg*
“We’re not waiting for anything,” Olivia’s declaration made Natalia smile, almost giddy. They had waited far too long and put their love too much on hold, expecting everything to be perfect, for the moment to be just right for the next step.
But they were tired, both of them. The road had been long to get to this point, but there was no denying what they both wanted. It was time, and as nervous and as scared as both of them were, the need to cross this final line together was far stronger.
Olivia’s stormy green eyes penetrated Natalia’s defenses. She sat on that gazebo bench like a stone. Her hear pounded as Olivia drew closer, gentle fingers teasing along her jawbone. She wanted this, she had wanted it for so long the constant ache for it had become a part of her existence. She stared at the soft lips and teasing smile, a hint of desire and playful mischievousness dancing at the edges. It was a look Natalia realized she had seen so many times before as they folded laundry or washed dishes, but now there was an awareness, an awakening, in both of them. An unmistakable, undeniable force had taken hold of them called love. And like any other couple in love they wanted to express it, revel in it, savor the wonder of it.
Natalia was done with waiting. Olivia was certainly worth waiting for, but she had waited her whole life for a love like this, something that rocks the very foundation under her feet. She found it in the most unlikely of a person. She never thought in a million years that Olivia Spencer would be the one to break down all the walls she had built, every brick she laid to stop herself from getting hurt again. With each brush of Olivia’s fingers and the ghosting across her face of warm breath, another brick fell.
Only a little more and their lips would touch, just a little closer. A roar of laughter from the other side of the gazebo startled them out of the moment. They looked at the two little boys running and playing cops and robbers before turning back to each other.
“We were gonna…,” Natalia felt her throat tighten up and the words wouldn’t come out.
Olivia was still smiling brilliantly, “Kiss? Yeah, I think so…I mean, I wanted to if you did.”
“Yeah! I, um…mean yeah, I think so.” The smile dropped from Olivia’s eyes and Natalia felt the kick in her own gut as she rushed to correct her statement. “No, I know so. I want it. I really, really want it. But a park full of kids and their parents is probably not the best place.”
Olivia smirked sexily at Natalia, “Give the neighbors something to talk about.”
“Nuh uh, nobody’s sharing in our first kiss but us.” Natalia gave Olivia a long look, conveying her message with her eyes before speaking it. “I want you alone, no interruptions, no curious eyes.”
Olivia brushed her fingertips along Natalia’s arm, “There’s only one problem with that.”
Natalia looked at her confused, “And that would be?”
Olivia leaned over and whispered in her ear, “If I start kissing you, I’m never going to stop.”
Dark eyes fluttered shut at the warm breath on her ear and the visions the words invoked. She barely heard Olivia’s follow up comment since she was lost in her own fantasy world of kisses, hands, and naked skin.
“Are you ready for that, Natalia?”
Natalia let out a shuttering puff of air, “I’m so ready.”
The spell was broken when Olivia leaned back and pulled her phone out of her pocket. Natalia, still slightly dazed from the erotic moment, her heart pounding and hands itching to touch Olivia everywhere, watched as if detached from her body as Olivia hit a speed dail button.
“Hi, Jane. It’s Olivia. I was wondering if you could take Emma for the night. I know…I know it’s last minute but I’ll double…hell, I’ll triple your pay.”
Natalia smiled, finally catching up to what was Olivia was doing, and she snickered at her not-so-subtle attempt to get some alone time tonight. Olivia looked at Natalia and swatted at her for laughing, before finalizing the details with Jane. She even went so far as to tell Jane not to bring Emma back to the house in the morning and that she’d pick her up.
When Olivia hung up the phone, she looked at her still smirking girlfriend, “What?!”
Natalia laughed as Olivia leaned back over the railing, “Nothing. Just a little desperate there, aren’t you?”
“No, I’m just striking while the iron’s hot. I know that it’s just wrong to squander such a perfect opportunity.”
Natalia studied her, watching how the sun made her eyes sparkle, the green shifting from dark to pale with the amount of light. Everything about Olivia fascinated and captivated her, her strength, her beauty, even her self-deprecation.
Natalia reached up and ran her fingers along the smooth planes of her chin, until her fingers teased the edges of her hair and drifted over the sensitive skin of her neck. Olivia’s eyes darkened and settled on Natalia’s lips. Natalia didn’t have to kiss Olivia to know the effect the beautiful woman had on her. She could feel it in every muscle of her body.
“You don’t have to worry, Olivia. I’m not going anywhere and I’m not changing my mind. I’m yours…tonight and always.”
Olivia let out a long sigh, her eyes closing as she reached up and took Natalia’s wandering hand in her own, “That just means you’re stuck with me too.”
“I can live with that.”
“Good.” Olivia finally broke the moment, looking around for Emma, “Jane’s going to be by to get Emma around six, so I can be over by seven.”
Natalia smiled, and stood to leave, “Sounds good. Guess I better go and get ready.”
“Okay.”
Olivia watched as Natalia said goodbye to Emma, giving her a big hug and kiss, before walking away. When Natalia got to her car, she turned and winked at Olivia before waving goodbye. Olivia felt practically giddy and knew she had to be smiling stupidly, but she didn’t care. She was in love with Natalia freakin’ Rivera and life couldn’t get much better than that.
********
Natalia swayed to a sassy salsa beat drifting into the kitchen from the CD player in the living room. She picked up a lid, stirred, took a taste then wrinkled her nose at the blandness, grabbed some more spices in the cupboard and added them to the mix. She moved around the kitchen effortlessly. This was her domain, the place where she had complete control.
It was in this room where she thought out all of her problems and fears. It was where she prayed to Mary for guidance and where she had happily made probably hundreds of breakfasts for Emma. She frowned at the thought because she missed taking care of Emma and getting her ready for school, reading to her before bed.
What she had with Olivia and Emma was the kind of life she had wanted to give Rafe. A loving, stable home filled with love. Not a roach-infested, efficiency apartment on the South side of Chicago. She just thanked God that Rafe never got into drugs or gangs. It had been nothing short of a miracle he hadn’t.
Natalia tried to put the sad thoughts of her son out of her mind, even if just for tonight. For tonight, she had one sole focus…Olivia. She looked around the kitchen, assessing the situation and checking the clock. She had a little over an hour until she got there. She turned the food down low and ran upstairs to shower and change.
Twenty minutes later, she stood in front of her closet in nothing but a robe. The space in front of her looked incredibly bare because she had taken well over half of the clothes out and spread them on the bed. She had no idea what to wear. Olivia had seen just about everything she owned at least once so she had no backup outfits that would stun her. Then it occurred to her that with any luck she may not be in those clothes long anyway so why does it matter?
“Fine…I’m done. Just gonna pick something she has liked before and be done with it,” Natalia muttered to herself as she scurried under the pile to get a royal blue, scoop neck blouse and a pair of well-worn, faded jeans. Olivia had commented about how nice she looked in them and even though the hem at the ankle was fraying terribly, she refused to get rid of them. She finished off her outfit with black boots and a pair of silver hoop earrings.
She looked at the clock and panicked, “Ohhh, crap! Only thirty minutes.”
She raced to the bathroom and blow dried her hair and quickly put on her makeup. She hurried downstairs, kicking herself for not starting dinner earlier. She checked the food to make sure everything was okay.
“Alright, just a few finishing touches and we’re good.” Her stomach flipped at the thought that ran through her head. She realized that in less than half an hour Olivia would be in the house, alone with her, and nothing to distract them from each other. No Jellybean wanting to stay up and watch Dora. No calls from Rafe checking up on her. And thanks to the locks she had installed on the doors not long after Olivia moved, no one to barge in unexpectantly.
Natalia took a deep breath, “This is it. No more waiting.”
******
Across town, Olivia was checking her outfit in the mirror. She finally made a face and kicked off the heels. It was too dressy to go over to the farmhouse for dinner. This was Natalia, for Christ’s sake, and it’s the place she used to live! Certainly, she could wear jeans and a t-shirt and it would be okay.
Olivia threw her hands up at her own indecisiveness. She wanted to look good for Natalia, but Natalia had already seen her at her best...and her worst. She wasn’t sure how she could top the look she had going on at the engagement party. She saw even back then how Natalia looked at her. She had known even then.
She felt the nervous flip of her stomach, recalling how Natalia had looked at her today at the gazebo. Unless Olivia did something major to screw things up, she thought they had a good chance to make some major progress tonight. And by making progress, Olivia hoped that would translate to making love. It was what she wanted…God, she wanted it so bad she practically moaned at the thought, but she also knew that tonight Natalia had to lead. She had to be sure this is right for her. Olivia hadn’t been kidding when she told Natalia that she wanted it to be okay. She does want it to be okay, but only Natalia knows if it is or not. For Olivia though, making love to the woman she loved was more than okay!
She finally settled on a comfortable white blousy shirt that reminded her a little of a damsel-in-distress from a pirate movie. Ironically, she felt like a damsel-in-distress all swoony and panicked, and Natalia was the only one who could rescue her. She may have been worldly in many ways, but Olivia was in uncharted waters with Natalia and the little love dingy she had floated in all her life was leaky and sinking.
“Okay, enough with the open sea metaphor, Olivia! Get dressed and get to your woman,” she admonished herself.
Olivia quickly styled her hair, leaving it loose and flowing, and put on her makeup. She grabbed her purse and started for the door then stopped in her tracks. She raced back to the bathroom and picked up a bottle.
She looked at herself in the mirror, “Didn’t she say she liked this perfume? Yes, she did. I wore it at Emma’s presentation. Oh, yeah, good memories.” She sprayed it lightly on and finally headed out.
Olivia sat in the driveway for a couple minutes, taking deep breaths. She lifted her hand to the light and she could see it was shaking.
“Oh come on, it’s not like you haven’t had dinner with her before! Jeez, grow a pair!” The know-it-all, snarky voice in the back of her mind though added that she had never had dinner with her before when they were all alone and knew they were attracted to each other.
“Oh shut up,” she whispered to herself, “Okay, this is it. I can do this. I’m Olivia Freakin’ Spencer. I can do this. No more waiting.”
********
Natalia jumped at the knock on the door and raced from the couch to the door. She stopped just shy getting her breathing and racing heart under control. With far more calm than she felt, she swung the door open and greeted Olivia.
“Hi,” Natalia felt all other speech leave her as she took in Olivia. God, she’s gorgeous! She couldn’t take her eyes off the bare shoulders, “You look…um…that’s…that’s a new blouse?”
Olivia smiled and felt herself calm slightly at Natalia’s obvious distraction. She chucked herself on the shoulder for making a wise clothing choice, “Actually, no. I’ve had it for a while, but it was stuffed away in a box. You look…great! That’s one of my favorites on you.”
She watched as Natalia turned away embarrassed and pretended to stir the food on the stove. Oh, and she’s wearing my favorite jeans too. Olivia felt suddenly warm imagining slipping the denim over Natalia’s hips and down her legs. She stifled a groan.
“Are you hungry?”
Olivia’s mind was still rolling in a naked Natalia gutter, “Oh yeah…uh, I mean, yes. Yes, I’m starving actually.”
Natalia’s eyes drifted down before quickly jerking back up, “Me too.”
Olivia smirked as Natalia turned away. She just checked me out. Olivia did a mental happy dance and scooted up closer to Natalia, her chin close enough to rest on the other woman’s shoulder.
“So, what are we having?”
“Picadilla…it’s a Cuban dish,” Natalia looked over her shoulder at the smoky green eyes that captivated her.
“Is it spicy?”
“No, actually, it’s sweet,” Natalia couldn’t pull her eyes away from Olivia’s lips. God, I want to kiss her so bad.
“Hmmm, too bad. I like things a little hot and spicy, but sweet’s really good too.”
