Summary: “Lexie is neurotic, not perky.”
_____________________________________________________________________________________

“Maybe you should bring her flowers and candy.” Lexie beams, cradling a beer bottle in both hands.

“NO.”

“Uh-uh.” Both Cristina and Meredith reply simultaneously, holding their own drinks in front of them as the three women sat around Meredith’s kitchen table with a saddened expression on her face.

Lexie frowns as her idea is rejected and she slumps down in her seat once again.

“I don’t know what to do--” Callie repeats for the third time in the past twenty minutes, “--I mean, Arizona is--happy and shiny all the time, but I think people like that don’t want candy and flowers to make up for a fight. She’s--” She waves her hand around as if to bring on the word she’s looking for.

“Perky.” Cristina finishes for her, reaching into the bowl sitting in the middle of the table for a potato chip, then chewing loudly. “She’s perky, and all these people in this room? Not perky. You need to ask one of her kind.”

“Lexie’s perky.” Meredith offers and Lexie smiles proudly at Callie.

“No.” Cristina counters as Lexie frowns again, disappointed, “Lexie is neurotic, not perky.”

“Hey!”  Lexie exclaims, “I’m perky--not all the time, but--I’m perky--sometimes. I’m just a little--anxious and--”

“Neurotic.” Cristina cuts in and Meredith giggles beside her.

“I’m perky.” Lexie mumbles through another sip of beer.

“If you want perky, you need to ask Izzie.” Meredith adds with a long gulp of her beer.

“Ask Izzie what?” The blonde asked as she sauntered through the kitchen and toward the refrigerator.

Callie motioned a silent ‘no’ in Meredith’s direction.

“Callie wants to know what to do about Doctor McPerky-Pants. They had a fight and it was Callie’s fault.” Cristina blurts quickly.

“What the hell!” Callie exclaims.

At that, Izzie shuts the refrigerator and turns around with a knowing smile on her face, “Callie, you want some advice?” She asked, nodding.

“No--”

“Yes, she does.” Lexie replies, sitting up in her seat, then glancing apologetically at Callie.

“Callie--” Izzie starts, her chin propped on her hands as she rests her elbows on the kitchen counter, a smile plastered on her face, “--I think you want some advice. These three are not going to come up with a solution. You need an expert, and I am a walking Cosmopolitan relationship test cheat sheet. So…do you want some advice?” She asks again, in a low, teasing whisper.

Callie stares ahead, bites her cheek, then grits her teeth before downing the shot placed politely beside her beer, “Fine.” She says in a low tone.

“Okay!” Izzie replies with a  clap of her hands before moving around the Island to sit at the table with the rest of the, now, slightly drunken women. “So!” She starts, turning her seat to face Callie, “What’s the problem?”

“Well-” Callie starts, clearing her throat, then taking a deep breath before admitting in low key, “--she kind of--um…said ‘I love you’, and I--did not say anything in return.”

Cristina giggles, but shuts up as soon as Callie turns to glare at her, “What! I’m just saying! Sit where I’m sitting, it’s a little bit funny.”

“It’s hilarious.” Callie replies.

“Do you love her?” Izzie cuts in, turning for a second towards Cristina, “Cristina, get me a beer. This requires beer.”

“Uh--do I look like a maid?”

“No. You look like a woman who’s going to get me a beer. Because I can’t help Callie without beer, and if I don’t help Callie, she’s going to give you crap for weeks about how you made her come to Meredith’s  house and she had to sit around with a bunch of girls she doesn’t really like, one of them being the reason she’s a divorcee.” She beans a wide smile at Cristina.

“No, she won’t!”

“Cristina, get her a beer.” Callie adds blankly. Dreadfully, returning her attention to Izzie.

While Cristina bubbles her way to the refrigerator as Izzie sighs dreamily at Callie and smiles once again, “Do you love her? She’s very pretty.” She reaches out to touch Callie’s outstretched arm briefly, “Congratulations.” She squeals.

“Thanks--” She replied with a tight smirk

“You’re welcome.” She mouths a thank you to Cristina, who’s just begrudgingly handed her a beer. “So do you love her?”

“I--you know, it’s complicated.”

“Commitment-phobia.” Izzie nods.

Callie looks at Cristina for help, who simply stares back blankly and she’s about to offer a number of colorful euphemisms for her thoughts of her, when Meredith cuts in, “It’s a little tough for someone of Callie’s--romantic experience to--trust freely, Iz.” It’s uttered in a low, gruffly mumble, but Callie thinks about the clearest description of her emotional state yet.

“Hmm--” Izzie nods. She seems to be leisurely marinating her thoughts as she sips on her beer repeatedly and Lexie watches, amazed, “--you need to tell her you love her.” Izzie finally states sternly.

Callie starts to laugh, before the blonde holds her hand up and adds, “Callie, you’re having drinks with Cristina and Meredith, which, fine, you’ve done before, but Lexie? Really?”

“Hey!” Lexie adds, offended.

But Izzie continues, unaffected, “You’re getting relationship advice from the woman who ruined your marriage, which in turn lead you to cute blonde kid doctor but that’s beside the point, you need to tell her because you love her, you’re just letting your emotional shortcomings get  in the way of that and she is not going to wait for long.”

Callie stares back, lets the information sink in, and takes a large gulp of beer before replying, “I do feel kind of dirty sitting here.”

“Exactly.”

Callie sighs heavily, and slumps back in her chair, “How do I start?” She mumbles.

“Candy and flowers.” Lexie answers with decisive nod.

“And alcohol.” Cristina cuts in. “Wine. I mean wine. It’s romantic and whatnot.”

**************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

Arizona lies on her couch, her cheek squashed against the cushion under her as she rests on her stomach, remote control securely held on her grasp as she changes the channel again.

I Love Lucy.

She groans inwardly and angrily pushes the ‘channel up’ button. Callie’s recent confession about her crush on Lucille Ball has permanently ruined the show for the blonde.

Animal Planet. Not rowing her boat, so she changes the channel again. Her eyebrows perk up suddenly as she reaches national Geographic. An hour dedicated to Mary Magdalene, her favorite biblical whore, sounds just right. She smiles and says in a tiny squeal, “Score.” She watches for a  couple of minutes before her doorbell rings and she jumps up immediately, reaching for her wallet on the coffee table.

After a long day off spent on doing laundry and cleaning every inch of her apartment. Pizza and beer are calling her name.

Her cotton clad feet pad quickly over the hard wood floor as she moves toward the door. She pulls the door open and her smile falls immediately, despite the tiny flutter the sight of her always causes. “Calliope. What are you doing here?”

Callie offers a tight smile, but can’t help but feel a little hurt at the bluntness in Arizona’s tone, “I’m here to apologize for--responding incorrectly and for--having the communicational skills of a five year old girl--”

“A five year old girl would say when she was uncomfortable or unhappy so…” Arizona replies coldly with a shrug.

“Fair enough.” Callie nods, “But I’m not unhappy. I’m just--so skittish that I feel emotionally cripple, Arizona, I’m just--”

“Sorry? Yeah, I’ve been feeling a little of that, too.” Arizona replies as she turns and heads back inside, trying very hard to ignore the giant bouquet of orchids in Callie’s hand, that have dropped limply to her side now, the brown paper bag sitting by her foot out in the hall, and the adorable pout currently placed on her lips. Arizona drops her wallet back on the coffee table and looks around the now spotless apartment. “Shit.” She curses under breath, and settles for rearranging the cushions on the sofa.

“Y’a know--” Callie starts, along with an all too sarcastic smile that Arizona cannot see anyway, “--for someone who plays with kids and smiles all day, every day, you can wear a bitch hat pretty well.” She hears Arizona scoff, but the blonde does not turn to look at her as she follows her in and drops the flowers promptly on the table top as she passes it. She places her hands on her hips and stares expectedly at her girlfriend, “I don’t understand how you can be THIS pissed off at me. I mean, yeah. I messed up. I can recognize that. Hello reason I’m here. But you’re making it seem like I asked for this. You say you don’t want anything in return but that’s not what I see. I did not ask anything from you, you have no right to demand anything from me!”

“Oh, but you do demand a lot, Callie!” Arizona shouts back, turning to face Callie and wiping a stray tear off her cheek, “You wear your heart on your sleeve. So you expect no less from every one else, only you’ve been so hurt and so--wounded before, that now you’ve got a wall so high around yourself, I’m lucky I get a tiny bit of affection from you!” She sniffles and her hands fall into fists at her sides to keep herself form crying, “While I, STUPIDLY, let myself walk into this thing with you, completely bare and vulnerable and you--you’re going to walk out of it just fine and dandy. Well, I’m happy for you, Calliope. Really. Super.”

The last word was uttered in a breathy whimper and it cut Callie to the core. There is a long heavy silence between them as Arizona paces from one foot to the other, and Callie swallowed lump after lump in her throat. After a few painful seconds, she clears her throat, and eyes to the floor, she says quietly, “These last couple of days--not being able to talk to you, because I wanted to give  you space, have been hell for me. I felt--I FEEL like--my shoes don’t fit right. Like--no matter how much I brush my hair, it’s never tame enough, you know…I can’t sleep.” She shakes her head and winces a little, “Anyway, I am guarded, but--I wouldn’t say there’s a wall--it’s more like a…fence. A tiny, two feet tall fence with a rickety door that doesn’t lock anymore.” She takes a deep breath as she looks up and Arizona’s deep blues are staring back, “I’ve been in this, Arizona. Maybe a little hesitantly at first, but--I’ve never been scared that you’d hurt me. That doesn’t mean I’m not terrified that I’ll fuck it up.” Her voice cracks this time and she blinks back a couple of tears. “I’m so sorry that I hurt you.” She takes a shaky breath and feels herself start to lose it, “But please don’t doubt me, because I really think I can do this. Please don’t leave me, because I think it will actually physically impale me.” The sob that escapes her doesn’t make it’s way completely out before Arizona moves toward her and envelops her in a tight embrace that that leaves her almost limp and weak in the blonde’s arms.

Arizona holds Callie tightly, her eyes closed as she breathes her in. She takes only a few seconds  before reaching up to cradle her face in both hands as she pulls away, making sure Callie’s paying full attention before saying to her, “You have to stop treating me like I’m going to leave any second, Callie, because I’m really too far in to WANT to anymore. Okay?” She smiles as her thumbs caress Callie’s cheeks, “You’re just going to have to deal with it, and you  have to like it. And accept it. Because I’m pretty great and--” Arizona’s attempted threat is swallowed by a silencing kiss she almost instantly melts into and she sighs as her fingers slip to sink back into dark locks of long hair, while Callie’s hands slip easily around her waist and beneath her shirt to smooth out against the skin of her back.

“I’m sorry.”

“Callie--” Arizona cuts in as she pulls away to meet Callie’s eyes,“--and You need to stop walking on eggshells around this relationship, because I’m not going to leave. She smiles, “Okay? And you DON’T have to say anything back. You don’t. You’ve got that? Because, I swear, Calliope--” She is suddenly cut off aga by a silencing kiss and she sighs against soft lips.

“You’ve got plans today?” Callie asks after pulling away, only to move her lips down to Arizona’s neck.

“No--” Arizona moans, her eyes closed, her hands still in Callie’s hair, “--why?”

“Because I was thinking--” Callie continues, nibbling lightly at soft skin, “--I could maybe show you just how sorry I really am.”

“Oh--” Arizona pants, “--yeah, that sounds like a plan.” She moans quietly at the feel of Callie’s tongue on her skin, but the two women soon part at the sound of soft shuffling behind them.

“Sorry--I’m sorry--” The young pizza man standing in the doorway stammers guiltily, pizza box in hand, “--door was open.”

“Oh!” Arizona exclaims, snapping her fingers in realization, and reaching for her purse, “My pizza--” By the time she reaches the poor kid, he’s sweating and red faced, and looking anywhere and everywhere but at either woman. “Here you go.” She says sweetly as she hands him a twenty dollar bill and he hands over the pizza, “--thank you.”

“Welcome.” he mumbles, scurrying out quickly.

Arizona shakes her head and chuckles as she closes the door, then looks up with a realization, “Oh my god, I forgot to tip him!”

Callie’s brow creases as she shrugs off her jacket and tosses it in a nearby chair, “I don’t know.” She replies, “I think he got an eyeful of a tip.”

Arizona smiles as Callie offers her hand out to her and she places the pizza down on the countertop before taking it and leading her towards the bedroom, “Come on, let’s go repent.”

_____________________________________________________________________________________

Callie awakens the next morning, wrapped in a white comforter and sheets, to the sound of Arizona’s shower, and the sight of a steaming cup of coffee sitting beside a crystal vase, holding a single white Lilly.

She smiles and blinks once, then again before turning on her back and stretching out like a cat, groaning at the delicious soreness of her muscles, before sitting up and holding the sheets up to her chest with one hand while she looks around the sunlit room and she combs her unruly hair with the other hand.

Her morning haze gets the best of her and she lies back against the pillows, her eyes closing as she doses off to the sound of the water shutting off. She’s not sure how long she waits but she smiles at she feels a pair of warm, soft lips kiss her forehead.

“Oh, you’re awake--” Arizona smiles as Callie’s eyes flutter open and she leans over to place a kiss on her lips, “--I have to get to work. Stay as long as you want.” She drops another kiss, “On second thought, just stay here, in my bed--and be naked, until I get back so I can take full advantage of you.” She chuckles before placing another, longer lasting kiss on her girlfriend’s lips, the taste that is only Calliope lingering sweetly on her tongue as she pulls back, “Go back to sleep.” She tells her softly.

“Call in sick.” Callie pleads, reaching up to cradle the blonde’s cheek to lead her down for another series of beckoning kisses.

“I can’t.” Arizona replies, the sigh she releases not making her sound very believable.

“Then call in sex starved.” Callie tosses back smugly, pressing her lips fully to the other woman’s before slipping her tongue between her lips and sighing against her as their tongues touch and the blonde slowly moves to straddle Callie’s waist.

Arizona moans as Callie slips her hands under her shirt, and she quickly grabs both her wrists to pin them above her head. She pulls her lips from Callie’s without warning, her breathing labored as she smiles wickedly down at the raven haired vixen, “I really have to go,” She says, her hips thrusting down softly for only a second, the action sending shivers down her back as her body starts to react and moisture begins to build between her legs.

Callie’s pout quickly dissolves into a smile when Arizona pulls at the comforter to slip her hand underneath it and between her legs, “Really? You really have to go?”  Her lids and chest heavy with anticipation as teasing, delicate fingers tickle her inner thigh, beckoning her to part them further. The sheets ruffle audibly as she does so and she bites her bottom lip despite herself.

“I do.” Arizona teases back, leaning over, her lips against Callie’s ear as her index finger traces Callie’s slit, “So, come fast.” She smiles against her ear slipping her index finger deep inside of her and Callie releases a long, deep moan, her neck arching as her eyes shut and Arizona aches. Aches between her legs and aches to lean over and lick the arch of her lover’s neck.

She wastes no time in adding a second finger, then a third as her thumb starts to circle her clit and Callie’s hips begin to buckle upward and against her hand. She thoughtlessly, grinds her hips down against her thrusting hand and she lets out a small grunt from the back of her throat. She knows she really does have to go, so she keeps it discreet.

Callie tugs at her wrists  but it’s no use. She’s lost count of how many times she’s started one of their seduction games,  only to end up in this very position, pinned under a soft body with her wrists above her head, panting and helpless as her body responds to Arizona’s touch compliantly. And then it begins, the chill that runs along her spine first, then all over her body before the pleasurable tension at the pit of her stomach and all the way up to her chest, the increasing waves of pleasure in her core, and then the searching desperately for the blondes mouth as her body stiffens and her world explodes in a string of moans and whimpers against her lips.

She soon feels Arizona lift her body off her, but her lips never stop leaving soft kisses over her cheeks and eyelids.

When Callie finally opens her eyes, she’s met with a toothy, dimpled smile as Arizona picks up her bag and readies to leave, “Better?” She asks, her own body still humming with the tension of non-release.

Callie simply laughs and licks her lips, her body still tingling as she forces her weight onto her elbows. She watches intently as Arizona, pink cheek and obviously still aroused, slips on a pair of black slacks. When she says she has to go, Callie has realized more than once, that she means business. She moves around her room freely, talking flirtatiously about god knows what. All Callie can do is nod and make replying sounds as her girlfriend slips on her shows, then slips on her earrings. She hears her tell her that she will take her out later that night. That she has plans that involve candles and maybe the school girl outfit again if she wants.

Arizona looks up as she hooks her purse over her shoulder, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear and she smiles at the look Callie is giving her that she can’t quite identify. She hopes it’s not a sexy look because she’s not quite sure she can handle that right now, and if so--work be damned. “What?” She laughs.

“I love you.”

It’s said with a sigh and Arizona freezes, staring blankly back, her heart pounding in her chest as she waits for Callie to take it back. Or for the realization that she made herself hear it. That must have been it. She must be hearing things. “What did you say?” She asks. And she knows it sounds stupid and she probably shouldn’t press her luck, but she needs to make sure.

“You made me coffee--” Callie shrugs, clearing her throat to push the knot in her throat back in its place, “--and you got me a Lilly.” She feels herself start to tear up, “--I love Lilies.”

“I know you do.”  Arizona replies sheepishly. Okay, maybe she did hear it.

“And I’m terrified of losing you, so--before you go to work, I wanted to tell you that I love you.” Callie laughs nervously and shrugs again, “So, have a nice day.” She pulls and tugs nerously at the creases on the comforter, then smoothes them out as silence blankets the two and she clears her throat again before smiling up guiltily.

Arizona’s mouth opens to say something of logic or importance, but nothing comes out for a while, before she drops her purse on the floor with a loud thud and she curses in a heavy pant, “Damn it, Calliope.” She rids of her jacket, then quickly pulls her shirt over her head before shimming out of her pants and kicking them off along with her shoes.

Callie welcomed her with open arms as Arizona hops onto the bed and onto her lap before pulling her in roughly by the back of her head. She groans at the twinge of pain as Arizona bites down on her bottom lip, but she welcomes in and uses both her hands on her ass to pull her tighter against her. She tastes salty tears on her lips and she doesn’t know who they belong to but she tastes them all the same and so she reaches around to undo the clasp of Arizona’s bra, quickly tearing her lips from the blonde’s only to cup her breasts, molding them against her palms before lowering her head to wrap her lips around a hardened nub, while rolling the other between her thumb and index finger, pinching softly before soothing it again with her palm, drawing a long moan from the recipient.

Her center throbbing now, her skin so heated, she’s almost sure Callie can feel it as she touches her, Arizona pulls back and pulls Callie’s face up to meet her eyes. They stare at one another for what seems, an eternity, and Arizona traces her thumb over the contours of Callie’s face, the swell of her lip as their breaths mingle in the short space between them, and she finds she can’t look away.

Something suddenly snaps between the two and they instinctively crush their lips against one another.

Arizona groans in frustration of Callie’s still covered body and she lifts her weight onto her knees to pull roughly at the heavy comforter, taking her a couple of pulls of fabric before she’s tossed it on the floor. She sighs victoriously, settling back down against Callie’s lap and pressing her chest flush against hers while her arms wrap tightly around her neck, her fingers tangling in dark, morning messy hair, while her tongue, full of incentive and motive, laves over Callie’s.

Callie moans, her arms wrapped around the blonde’s back tugging her forward as she thrusts her hips upward and Arizona thrusts downward, grunts escaping from both pairs of dueling lips.

Arizona grunts again as she soon finds herself flat against the mattress. Her mouth searches aimlessly for Callie’s and she pants as the other woman urges her onto her side and slips behind her, her knee parting her thighs as her hand smoothes against her arm, then the curve of her waist while her lips kiss her shoulder. Arizona moans as finally, those lips are against her own and she kisses Callie hungrily, pressing back to feel Callie’s taut nipples against her back, and she grips whatever sheets are left on the bed as Callie’s hand slips from her hips, back up her waist, then over belly, and downward, under the soft cotton of her panties.

She gasps, but keeps Callie’s lips at bay, their noses grazing as long, skillful fingers slip between her parted thighs and quickly find her clit, circling it in slowly, pressured circles, for too short a time before they pull away and she groans in frustration, only to cry out when Callie smoothes her fingertip flat against the throbbing nub and she silences herself by pushing her mouth against Callie.

It goes on for a while, Callie’s hand teasing and never staying long enough, until Arizona is whimpering and unknowingly pleading Callie for release.

Callie pulls her lips away, only to latch onto Arizona’s shoulder, then the back of her neck as she moves her index finger in quick circles around the blonde’s clit, pressing herself tighter against her from behind, licking and nibbling at the tender flesh of creamy white skin as Arizona’s hips move against her hand in quick and searching thrusts.

Arizona moans, burying her face against the sheets as best she can in the position she’s in, and she’s pretty sure her knuckles are white from the way she’s gripping the sheets. She simultaneously feels Callie sucking the side of her neck and one final swap over her clit has her crying out and stilling her hips abruptly as her orgasm comes sharply and without warning.

She pants and feels herself flinching as Callie continues to touch her and she has to reach between her thighs to still her hand, “Please, stop--” She breathes heavily, “--I can’t. Stop.” She laces their fingers together as Callie withdraws her hand and Arizona brings it up to press her lips to her knuckles before turning over to face her. Their eyes meet again and she cautiously grazes Callie’s lips with her own, all the while, her hand slips from Callie’s and disappears between her legs, their kiss no longer shy as lips part and tongues shamelessly try to top one another.

The rest is a blur of hands and limbs and passion blinded hair tugs.

When they finally pull back, breathless, sweaty and spent, they’re on the floor, beside the bed, tangled and content to get lost in lazy kisses.

Arizona sighs as Callie pulls away, and she traces Callie’s spine with her index finger, “I need to go to work.”

Callie grins, her cheek pressed against the soft carpet under them, “Something tells me you’re too late to recover, Doctor Robbins.”

Arizona grins back, draping her leg further over Callie’s waist as she pulls in close to place a kiss on the tip of her nose before pulling back, “I love you so much.”

Callie smiles. And she thinks she’s never been this happy in her entire life, “I love you too.” She takes a deep breath, “I’m going to buy YOU dinner tonight, I think.”

“Or--” Arizona replies, leaning over to kiss Callie’s shoulder as she plays with the long strand of dark hair that’s fallen over her shoulder, “--we could just order in.” She shrugs.

“You have all the best ideas.” Callie teases playfully.
