You know, this post right here, convinced me to give Hana Kimi another 'watch as it airs' chance.

I liked it, but not enough to watch 'live' as it got sidetracked by other dramas. But reading this, I am back on board. must dl tonight.

because it did take a while to find its bearings, if you weren't just immediately charmed by the crack - but now it's actually a drama, with cracky interspersions, and they're making the most of Oguri Shun's limited time on set (the boy just finished performing in As You Like it a few days ago, and now he's going to be in Caligula) so that the Sano and Mizuki OTPing does get some facetime. Episode 5 has some niiiiiiiiiice 1000 mile stareage going on.

Uwaa~ I really enjoyed reading this! I agree with all the points you made. I love how they're taking it slow with Sano and Mizuki as well... [Well, you would hope so, it is 12 episode.] You know, not making it painfully obvious that he sort of, kind of has a thing for her. Like, I really liked the shower scene - when he realized "Oh crap, there's a GIRL in there, etc..." I loved his face.

I just love how I can't really predict what's going to happen next [I haven't read the manga. ^^;] but usually, I can tell with some dramas because most of them all seem to be made out of the same recipe. Girl meets guy, they hate each other for awhile, then find out they actually love each other etc... I don't really have an idea how Hana Kimi will turn out!

Oh, this drama is so wonderful. & Tennouji owns my soul. This guy is made up of all kinds of awesomeness.

but I take it on its own, so I'm not too fussed about comparing it the jdrama, but good lord, is this not the most perfect summer show ever? I love all the Dorm heads - even if they don't physically 'match' the initial concept, they all act the hell out of their roles, and it just looks like they're all having so much fun, which translates really well on screen.

You know, when I saw in an earlier post your comment that episode 4 was you favorite, I couldn't quite figure it out.

I mean, so far, episode 2 (with 3 as a close second) has been my favorite, because Nakatsu totally pwned those episodes, and Nakatsu + soccer striptease = LUV! XD

But now, reading your explanation, I can understand. Episodes 2 and 3 may still give me the most laughs (so far), but episode 4 is, as of now, the most developed and complete. :)

Incidentally, I believe Ikuta Toma starred in a couple Japanese renditions of West Side Story. ^^

Episode 4 was my favorite as well:) Was there any symbolism in Sano taking off his earring and tossing it?? Maybe I'm thinking too hard about it XD

But I'm guessing from Mizuki's hilarious put down of it in the earlier episodes, that the earring and the hair and the 'cool' persona that Sano cultivates weren't part of the Regular Sano package.

*nods* agreed. That seems to be the general consensus. And I think it's awesome how we had the same reaction to the Nakao thing: Who the hell would vote for him to be #12?? hahaha

I enjoy your screencap reviews so much and I lawl to the point of ridiculous-ness and you've more or less pointed out everything I love about this series. This is actually the first time I heard of Hana-Kimi, I'm a real sucker for cross-dressing and the hijinks that ensue. I didn't watch the other drama, so I have none of the problems some people do, all I know is that Maki is made of sparkly awesomeness.
