so there's that

I don't even know if anyone I've friended is still reading this - if you are - hey. So tumblr has decided to join that bandwagon where they refuse to take into account what their users actually want and it's stopped being user friendly and the new xkit isn't able to keep up with the new levels of fuckery that tumblr has wrought, so here I am again ( Read more... )

I'm still here! Posting only in the most sporadic fashion, of course. My flist has been one big ghost town for ages now and it's very sad and discouraging.

Do you find that it's getting more active lately? I feel like there's been a pretty significant uptick in activity. It's still nothing like in the glory days before the repeated DDOS attacks and the death of Megaupload, but LJ makes an effort to be responsive to users as opposed to Tumblr having to rely on X-Kit for functionality? Something like that.

But Tumblr is garbage or the user friendly aspect of it is garbage and I really do miss the way we communicated on here.

But yeah. There has to be something else....

I find that LJ has become a lot easier to use, though there are still annoyances. But I've kept actively blogging here because, overall, LJ has been reliable. And I like having a decent comment system that doesn't rely on having to hook into Disquis, which I use only grudgingly other places.

And, as a paid account user, I like to be able to set the access level for my posts.

that is true! This account is a permanent account so I have the bells and whistles to play with. It's just - so much has changed in my life and yet not at the same time. Some friends have disappeared completely, as they do in life.

I hear you on the life changes. That's really inevitable, though. Nothing stays the same. We can only hope and strive to guide the changes to be as pleasant as possible.

I was about to wax long on why I stay on LJ, but really, that's better for an LJ post than a reply, so I guess I'll do that!

I think the only offense LJ has committed recently is that they force you to use the ugly feed feature if you're on a mobile device.

well tumblr's mobile feed is ungainly and keeps making me scroll when I don't want to, so I don't think there is a way to not make that experience suck less, other than only checking things on a computer.

I think the biggest problem with LJ these days is that it's a blogging platform meant mostly for communication, back-and-forth (at least for me), and with the lack of users still here, it feels more like you're shouting into the void.

What I'd really like is an aggregate site with its own robust commenting system. One that pulls in your feeds from any social platform and then allows you to post to any of them on-site, depending on what you want to do. Need to share something quippy? Post to Twitter. And in-depth episode review? Pull up LJ. Reblogging gifs? Tumblr. Sharing your latest cat pic? Instagram.

One thing I really miss about LJ is the interaction. I feel like Twitter isn't as intimate and Tumblr is SO NOT designed for interaction on any level. (And I can't force myself to interact there the way others do. It just feels wholly unnatural.) LJ's commenting system and filtering is so good that I didn't appreciate it until fandom shifted and I realized it wasn't the norm. (Not to mention how much I love the creative outlet of

you are a GENIUS and I would love that magical site option. ALAS.
I agree. I twitter once in a blood moon, and now that Tumblr has taken away the replies option and I have to figure out which variation of xkit can fix that stupid mess before tumblr goes and fucks up their own site agaaaain -- god. Reblogging as reply is annoying after awhile, I agree.

I MISS COMMENT THREADS. I REALLY REALLY MISS THEM. LJ, I'M SORRY I SPOKE TRASH ABOUT YOUUUUUUU.

I haven't made icons in years, but I remember the happy fun times and your tutorials. ^^

Everything you said! Being able to converse like this is why I keep using LJ. Tumblr is like high school kids shouting on a bus. LJ feels more like bumping into friends at the grocery on weekends and ending up sitting down and having coffee.

Has LJ become so dead that it's now vaguely hipster-like and we're all going to start using it again?

It feels so weird to be back here...
