I think Twilight has its own place in popular culture, but I don't think it's going to be a classic, unless we're talking of the cult, camp it's so bad it might be good -type of classic, because of course, there is always room ( Read more... )

Not the worst twilight comparison I've encountered. Someone actually compared Meyer to Jane Austen. I didn't bother to argue with the original poster, since I'm pretty sure (and really hoping) that several years after, people would wake up from the enchantment. It's just that nowadays, people are more than capable of putting an intellectual spin on anything, and the last thing I want is to legitimize half-assed writing as "literary achievement". I can already think of several approaches that would make Meyer seem like a smarter and better writer than she really is.
