Japan does Twilight, Saff does the safety dance in CLOGS OF GLEE

Okay, one of the unfortunate souvenirs I received while celebrating INDEPENDENCE!AMERICA! was a rather nasty sunburn. I'm recuperating now, and it doesn't hurt so much as it is very sore and tender and kind of itchy. I've been anointing myself with tons of aloe vera and cetaphil moisturizer, so the damage could be far worse than it actually is ( Read more... )

saff is easily amused, this is not your love story, what the hell japan, jdrama, japan loves me

I think the bad part is I am actually looking forward to this as a viable form of entertainment for me. Sadly, I also found Twilight entertaining (and not in the so bad it's good way)...

Yes, I am aware there is something wrong with me, and somehow a preteen's literary preference have taken over my brain. But not entirely. My favorite book is still written by Gabriel Garcia Marquez (and it's not One Hundred Years of Solitude, thank you very much) so I guess my brain isn't totally wasted.

I am going to enjoy it for the sheer LOLcat factor calledinvain July 8 2009, 03:00:06 UTC
I'm watching it right now, and ..just...DEAD. DEAD OF AMAZINGLY AWESOMELY BAD AWESOMENESS.
Babies STARE AT HIM. Dogs stop barking! A CLOUD LITERALLY HANGS OVER HIM.

And all he's uttered so far is a very sullen seimasen.

I can see the entertainment/appeal of Twilight, but I find the writing to be terribly amateurish and the characters infuriatingly stupid. I can get behind teen love stories, but when it's Bella Sue and her beyond perfect Vampire Betrothed, it tends to make me twitchy in the soul, somewhere.

Wow, Japan managed to outcraze Twilight?

I am so sick of Twilight right now it's not even funny and since the craze probably won't die out until all the movies are released we're going keep hearing about it.

To my disgust the other day when I was in Walmart I checked out the young adult section. Everything was vampires, I kid you not. All the books were about vampires and were vampire series. *headdesk*

i get the appeal of forbidden love, calledinvain July 8 2009, 03:17:15 UTC
i really do. I was a young teenage girl once, so I totally understand the appeal of having feelings for Someone Your Parents WOULD TOTALLY FREAK OUT over as a form of rebellion, but now that I'm older than dirt and have met 'bad guys', the entire vampire thing standing in for metaphor of impossible love just seems kind of dull and boring.

Sorry about the sunburn. I'm stocking up on sunblock for the picnic I'm going on with my elementary school on Friday.

I'm not a huge fan of vampires, and I'm not really a fan of any of the cast members in this drama, so I won't be watching it, but I'm definitely looking forward to your screencaps/commentary as I'm sure those will provide me with way more entertainment than watching the actual drama would.

it was my own fault. D: calledinvain July 8 2009, 06:06:05 UTC
Nostalgia from my younger (more active) days and I turned nice toasty brown with little to no burning involved - and then came my great epic love affair with libraries and all that sanctuary entailed and now what with actually taking care of my skin for the past 8 years or so + working in an office, and any sun I get is usually on accident. I was in the park for about six hours, and I had sunblock on my face and arms, but none on straps and upper chest area (I was wearing a long jersey dress with a tank top.) so suffice to say, I have a very interesting cowl shaped burn.

The only vampire related thing I really ever loved was Buffy the Vampire Slayer (tv show), and some of the better written YA in the early 90s, late 80s. None of this new stuff now.

I provide a community service, I think. I will gleefully watch terrible things with complete expectation of suckage, and then blog about it. It's developed my sense for the absurd.

I feel your pain... wistfulmemory July 8 2009, 11:43:36 UTC
I remember those days of easy tanning. Last year, when I attended Summer Comiket, I forgot to wear sunscreen, yet after two hours in the sun with no shade or liquids, I didn't burn at all. However, a couple of weeks later, I was watching the Sports Day practice at my elementary school, and even though I had sunscreen on, was staying in the shade, and was drinking water, I burned. I don't get it at all.

The only vampire thing I like is the book Sunshine by Robin McKinley, and it took me a long time to even be willing to read it (even though I'm a huge fan of her books) because I don't like vampires. It was a sad day for me when one of my Japanese high school students told me she was reading Twilight. I can only hope it's better in Japanese...

You do provide a wonderful service for your followers. We all truly appreciate it. :)
