I have that same romanization problem with my students' names, and the way I solve it is by putting a line over the vowel, like this: ō I think it looks better and it acknowledges the double vowel.

And slightly unrelated, but I remember the time she was on Bistro SMAP with Shun. My favorite line that kept getting said over and over: "You two look really good together!"
