with the kind of write up you provided, how could I not see it? it seemed to indulge in my offbeat/human drama button!

Um, tragic and cannibalistic. It's a very spare, claustrophobic (almost) kind of film, and the debut film of the female director. It was very intimate, sometimes uncomfortably so. But yeah - it's no 'comedy.'

both of the leads were attractive young women, but they make Ruka and Michiru look like a happy sunshine walk in the park.
