I remember some of you were curious to see the results of some photo walks I was going to take, based around the murals. Well, here's the result of the first one! This was mainly around the Donegall Pass, Donegall Road and Sandy Row areas of Belfast, close to the City Centre and Belfast City Hospital. Most murals in these areas will have been

Interesting to see there are still so many of them left.

This is actually only a small area that I could probably walk in an hour [if I hadn't kept stopping to take photos!]. There are many more [even in that small area, I cut out most of the ones that weren't paintings] and I plan more walks, especially in Catholic areas.

Absolutely fascinating. Does anyone object to photos being taken of them?

Not that I've seen. I know in some areas they run tours for tourists and there are photo stops at some of the more famous murals. These ones aren't in one of those areas but I'm pretty sure the people in these neighbourhoods know that the murals are culturally interesting to many people. If anyone saw me taking photos, chances are they assumed I was a tourist but I don't think they would have minded either way, unless they heard me/whoever say something extremely negative about the content of the mural.

Pretty sure it's meant to be culture. Lots of marginalised groups see bigotry and sectarianism as part of their culture, that they keep their culture alive by fighting against someone else's.
