Ted Chiang's short story Liking What You See: A Documentary is SF about the culture of beauty in American society. There's not much of a plot, but the discussions about the role that beauty plays in people's minds and decisions were very thoroughly thought out, which is typical for Chiang.

It's in his collection, Stories of Your Life and Others (Tor 2002).

I haven't read Uglies yet, but I hope to at some point. I've heard nothing but good things about it.

They are pretty popular, but in my opinion deserve more praise than they get (they're better written and have more substance than twilight, for one)

This is an amazing series!
Makes me want to write a book this good.

As far as I know pregnancy is never really brought up. But I would love to know more about it too!
