Closing Time....

Reviews - useful reviews, professional reviews, good reviews - are most like critiques given after it's too damn late to fix anything. They aren't there to help the author do better, but to guide readers toward books they'd like and away from books they wouldn't. For that, a good reviewer is worth her weight in gold. Reading as a reviewer means ( Read more... )

This is really the end of an era (you're definitely not the only blog I've been following for years that's closing recently, especially on LJ). I've only commented a few times but I really appreciated reading your thoughts on books and quite a few made thir way to my TBR pile. I'm already following you on Goodreads though so I can see what you're up to somewhat.
Wish you the very best for the future and thanks for the lengthy post, I like closure :)

Thanks for commenting, and the kind words! I'll definitely keep rating books on Goodreads (I wish they gave us half stars, grr...) but I haven't decided if I'm going to use one-liners for reviews or not. We'll see!

Happy trails, Calico. I for one have enjoyed your reviews. But burnout is no good. Taking a step back *is* good. :)

I'll look you up on Goodreads.

I totally get where you're coming from. I used to run a book review blog, but eventually abandoned it because of burnout. All the reviewing was making me start to hate reading, which is...well, too horrific to contemplate! Not surprised at all that you've finally decided to step down from this. Eight years is a long time, not to mention impressive. Will definitely be keeping up with you over at Calico in Transition!

BTW, I finally got my hands on Joe the Barbarian. I never would have known about this comic were it not for your review, and as a diabetic myself, I really enjoyed the title character and could relate to him a lot. Thanks for putting this on my radar! :)

Oh, you're very welcome! That title was a lovely surprise, and I'm glad my hubby made me read it. :) Feel free to chat about books whenever they come up over at Calico In Transition!

I've found some excellent reads from reading your reviews. Thank you very much for all the work you've put into this LJ, and I wish you all the best.
