another tough choice among a super-competitive field of candidates. I went for what I presumed to be the dark horse, since I already know I want to read Infidel (on the nightstand as we speak) and Eona. I have to be in the right frame of mind for Valente (though I think I'm more likely to enjoy this one than the Fairyland books). I'm voting Kress, since I have tended to like her work, but I haven't read anything recent & I don't tend to seek her out. I've also noticed (though this may be a manifestation of my own biases) that the preferences of the bookclub membership generally skew towards fantasy more strongly than SF (and mine skew the opposite way), so I tend to think the SF title is more likely to need the support.
Nothing wrong with the dark horse pick! It's been an interesting "race" so far in the polls!
Yeah, SF tends not to get a lot of love. Truth be told, I think it's an intimidating genre. Even the books we've read this year have been taxing for non-SF readers (hell, taxing for me and I DO read SF regularly).
