I know you have not really gotten into Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan books yet, but there is a character who gets called the Butcher of Komarr in those books. There are a lot of similarities between that character and Fred. Both characters are now older respected military men who had something go very wrong in their earlier years. It makes me wonder if one of this pair of writers is a Bujold fan. It would a cool call-out to her books. :)

I have read Cordelia's Honor, which was... crap, I forget the titles of the two books this omnibus creates. But "Butcher of Komarr" rings a bell. :) I've got another Vorkosigan book on my shelf too... Warrior's Apprentice, I believe....

I bet one or both of them are fans. :)

Yeah, you're right. We did find out that Aral was called the Butcher of Komarr in Shards of Honor, didn't we? I was thinking somehow that we did not get that until later in the series.

I look forward to you reading more of the Vorkosigan series eventually, though I know you are trying to restrict the number of books you buy!

I have a dream that one day, when the TBR pile has been vanquished into a tiny stack, I can sit down and indulge in full series of things I'm behind on. :)

Gah! You are so tempting me to go read it when I have other books I should read first :)
