I hope to read my copy soon. Of course, it has to arrive, but my husband said it shipped today!

I don't know how soon I'll read it, but hopefully soon. I've got some Hugo reading to catch up on though...

This story looks great. I'm definitely going to read it and possibly pick up the author's novel!

Definitely do! Come back and share your thoughts when you get around to reading the tale. It doesn't take too long either, not a big time commitment. :)

I just read this story and thought it was great! But reading your review, I'm wondering about this: "We learn what the Witch of Duva is, and seemingly innocent things that were just lovely details at the very start of the story took on a whole new sinister and utterly creepy meaning."

What is the Witch of Duva? I'm wondering if I'm missing something..

My understanding, which of course could be off, was that the village thought there was a witch in the woods taking the little girls and eating them. Turns out, it wasn't a witch at all, but a full-blown child molester who was doing god only knows what before killing them. Those little dolls he carved that sat on the mantle symbolized each victim.

That was my take. What was yours?

Hey! Your review of this not only inspired me to read the short story but also to buy and devour the novel! I've posted a review and thoughts on my blog here - http://www.brittanywarman.com/ if you're interested :). I've linked to you as well!

Thanks for the link! Glad to help inspire people to read engaging fiction!

I haven't yet the book yet (it's waiting on me), so I may need to skip parts of your review. :)

Guess I'll have to read this one. I just finished Shadow and Bone recently, and it is AWESOME!
