I loved the first book, haven't managed to get my hands on the other two yet, but they're definitely on the list!

At himself, I believe, but because he's the essence of childhood and immaturity (some of which he chooses, mind you), he had to create an object for his hate and anger, and Itempas was an easy target.

He seemed genuinely shocked to figure out that it was his prank that started the whole thing, though. He might've repressed the knowledge, of course, but that's the problem (and the strength) of implying over telling: it's left up to reader impressions. (But, yes, I came away with much the same conclusion as you did about the start of the Gods' War, so...)

That being said, that moment where Sieh, Deka, and Shahar joined hands to try and stop the destruction of Sky, my subconscious noted the use of three (two men, one woman) and started to wonder if they would replace the current Three of Yeine, Naha, and Itempas.

Hee! I thought that was what was going to happen too. XD I've been looking forward to this review and hearing your thoughts. ^-^ (They're so much more coherent than mine are.)

I actually agree... I don't think he INTENDED to start anything. That's the nature of childish tricks -- one doesn't tend to think of the consequences, you know?

It's definitely been an enjoyable trilogy! :)

Yep, there is that. Although I have it in my head that Sieh makes a point to mention that he likes kids because they do think about consequences, but it's highly possible that I just misread that. My timing wasn't perfect with this book.

It has! ^-^ And I didn't know she had new books scheduled to be out until I read your review either, so that bit of info was a nice bonus. ^-^

That's a good point you make about worrying where the book is going to go in this one. I felt that the suspense because you could see things going very badly for characters was more in this book than it was in previous ones. I had a lot of dread when I made (correct) guesses about what was being hidden but couldn't guess what it meant for the story.

What did you think about the excerpt for Jemisin's next series?

I didn't actually read it. If I already plan on reading the book, I avoid excerpts because I hate that feeling of "I've already read this" when I'm reading the real thing, you know?

BTW: when is the Book Geek Exchange stuff going to be announced?

Ah, that makes sense. Reading deja-vu.

You should be getting an email tonight! Let me know if you haven't got one by tomorrow.
