I may have to grab this. Husband and I are both rather immense J. Michael Straczynski fans--many early friendship conversations revolved around Babylon 5--and I find his take on things to be generally fascinating. I don't know if there's a working multi-genre writer I generally find more interesting, and I say this as a great big Martin fan.
I fangirl about J. Michael Straczynski the way most of my friends fangirl about Joss Whedon.
We're Batman people, so if you, as a batman person, can say "This is a Superman I can get behind" then I need to see it.
I'm definitely a Marvel girl. I don't read any DC stuff (only because I'm so behind I find it hard to pick up something from them and get myself into it). BUT this looks like something I could start with!
Hmmm I want to try my hand at reading some comics on American heroes (probably be good since I am an American? Does watching moves in the superheroes count? Like Captain America? D:), I read way too much Manga (or I used to, not so much anymore), and I want to see why my brothers love Superman so much....
This superman one you reviewed seems interesting, I think I shall pick it up at the comic store :D
You can't go wrong starting here. Though if you're wanting to sink your teeth into some iconic comics, definitely get your hands on The Watchmen and The Sandman. Both utterly different, but utterly classic.
I'm more of a Batman person too, though I did enjoy the Adventures of Lois and Clark as a kid (and Smallville for a while). This sound interesting, though I'm not much of a comic person. I think the only complete comic I've ever actually read is "Sandman", though I've been meaning to try out "Watchmen". If it ever gets decent to read comics via nook/kindle/etc. then maybe I'll check it out someday :).
From what I've heard, DC has made an exclusive deal with Amazon to let their comics be sold for the Kindle Fire, so you may get your wish with Watchmen!
I'm also a Batman girl. When it comes to Superman, I liked the first couple of movies, the TV series was kind of fun, and yes, the cartoon they came up with that followed after Batman: The Animated Series (which I still adore to this day). I refused to watch Smallville in any capacity (barf) and once I heard what went on in the last Superman movie, avoided it like the plague.
Nice to see something decent featuring the Man o'Steel though. I've seen this at work a few times and it's hard to ignore Superman when he looks so badass.
There were only 100, but I don't know if this was one of them. I think it's still at the store. I was actually the one to do the pulling, but I honestly don't think they'd updated the scanning devices to indicate the DC titles they wanted gone because I don't think I got 100... They should have just given us a list, but whatever. It's only for a certain amount of time anyway. Kindle Fire only gets those exclusively for a set time and then it all goes back to normal so...whatever. Silly retail politics. :P

Straczynski's got some good stuff. I believe I read his Midnight Nation last year, and it was quite the compelling little series. :)
