This sounds like a really neat book! I was also a musical theatre geek up until the end of undergrad (though after high school I quit acting and got really enthusiastic about tech). I really miss those days, sometimes. I think I'll read this one.
I've read it now, and I really liked it! Your review makes me curious about what was cut :). I enjoyed Maggie's sense of humor, too. I think that I was more interested in the growing relationship between Maggie and Rowan (and how that affected their personal growth) than the romance between them. I loved how everything came together in the last part of the book, also, and the surprises there.
I think being invested more in how the relationship grows and affects them individually really makes the romance of it key. :) I can't wait to see what Ashford does in the sequel!
I really liked this book too. I didn't think the cover matched the content of the book - I think the cover makes it seem too childish, in a way - but I liked the concept and execution of the plot. I thought that at some times I was waiting for the storyline to progress (i.e. I just wanted the conclusion, after a while, because I could tell where it was going for the most part) but I still thought it was well-written and the ending well-done.
