I quite enjoyed this book too—it was a wonderful small find, "quiet" is just the word I'd use—quiet and original, and I remember it fondly and have actually been thinking of picking up a copy (since I borrowed one from the library the first time through). I had a few issues with the pacing towards the end, but my review is here for all of that; mostly I loved it. I'm glad to hear you liked it too. ^^

Thanks for the link, I'll take a look!

It's so good to find little gems like this. :)

I've had this one on my Amazon wishlist for a few years now and haven't managed to actually get my hands on it yet.

I read this years ago and really enjoyed it, quite a different style from the usual run of the mill stuff and I remember it being quite clever but in a subtle way.

I should read it again, but not sure if my library will be open anytime soon :(

I picked this up a couple months ago at a Borders that was closing pretty much for the reasons you mentioned -- heard of her in conjunction with Nicola Griffith and knew this book by her was Nebula-nominated. Haven't read it yet, but this review makes me want to bump it up my stack! :)

(The copy I picked up was from Eos; I'm really, really hoping it doesn't have the rogue italics!)

This is, I'm sure, a Small Beer Press issue, but if it's not and you notice the same problem, let me know!

This looks like my ideal book - character driven sci fi. Going to buy!
