Sounds very similar to Seek Seeker. A little disappointing to hear there is little build-up, which makes me wonder if I should just go ahead and pick a different Sargent book to read, rather than continue with this series. Nice books are, well, nice, but not terribly memorable.
i noticed these, sort of vaguely, and what i thought was, "Oh, someone took Orson Scott Card's "Homecoming" series and made it YA"
have you read that series, and if so, is that what this is? or... is it just me being weird? [if you haven't read, there's no need to ask the question at all, i guess. lol]
The only fiction of OSC I've read is Ender's Game, and it wasn't my cup of tea. So no, I can't compare. When did OSC's Homecoming series come out? Sargent's first novel in this trilogy came out in 1983.
they came out VERY near each other. i haven't read Sargent's, so i can't compare. maybe i'll see if the library has them. i is poor, and had to buy books for this months club and extra :)
for what it's worth, do NOT read Homecoming - so far as i can tell, it's sole purpose is to "show" how Matriarchy is "bad" [story starts on a planet that is set up as a Matriarchy, and a bunch of hateful men decide to leave and start over someplace where they aren't forced to not be violent and etc.] it's... well written and makes me incredibly angry. i have now sworn off Card, and wish i had done so much earlier. sigh
Oh, these books have absolutely nothing to do with demonizing any particular gender group. I think you'll find that despite whatever initial similarities, the books are quite different. :)
And, just in case you're curious, I've got the first two Sargent for sale. ;)
Okay, so you've read BOTH Earthseed and Farseed? You're fast! :) If you get your hands on Seed Seeker, please let me know your thoughts! I'm curious to see how the trilogy wraps up. :)
erm. yeah - it's a gift and a curse. when i was 12, i read King's IT in a bit less than 30 hours. useful for academia - sort of disheartening around the middle of the month, when all my money is gone and i've read EVERYTHING TWICE ALREADY. :)
i will! i'm hoping to actually scrape up enough for a used copy thru Amazon, since apparantly students get free Prime for a year [and i am SO going to USE the HELL out of that Prime]
