So a book like this would have a maximum of three different POV's to work with, whereas someone like George R.R. Martin, whose books could kill a small child if chucked at said child's head, could have anywhere from eight to ten.

I like this new rule!

You nearly made me spit water all over my computer screen.

Excellent! I was hoping you'd read that sentence, as I thought of you when I wrote it!

I read Wicked Lovely in late 2009 and then started Ink Exchange but couldn't get past the first couple of chapters. I've always meant to go back and try to read all the books, but I got to a point where I realized I was happy with just having read Wicked Lovely and didn't need anything more. It was a good book and I enjoyed it but don't feel like I've somehow missed something by not reading the rest of the series.

Glad to hear that I'm not wrong in thinking the debut can stand alone!

I agree completely on that point.

I have enjoyed the series well enough, but Wicked Lovely can stand alone perfectly well.

I agree with Wicked Lovely being able to stand alone, as I've never read any of the other books. (Mainly because I don't love that book the way you do. I mean, yes, it was good, but I have no desire to reread it or even own it, so.)

That's fair. :) Out of curiosity, before you read Wicked Lovely, had you read a lot of other faery-focused fiction, like Holly Black's?

Yes, actually. I've read quite a bit of faery fiction, and Marr's work was one of the later ones. Why do you ask?

One of the trends I've noticed is that people who read Holly Black's work before Melissa Marr's prefer Black to Marr and don't find Marr's special, and people (like me) who read Marr before Black tend to prefer Marr and don't find Black's very special.

If that makes sense. :)

It may not be true across the board, but I've run into the trend a LOT ever since Wicked Lovley came out. :)

I was considering trying out George R.R. Martin, but now I'm a little scared.

Then again, it would be good self-defense the next time the neighbor kids come over...

Don't be. A Game of Thrones reads remarkably fast. I was shocked. :)
