Change Will Do You Good

So you know about my plan to reduce my TBR pile by increasing my number of DNFs. And if you don't know it yet, you do now: the theme for my 2011 book club is focusing on reducing my TBR pile farther (haven't heard the theme yet? It's SO HARD to let go of books, isn't it? I want to go through my already-read pile as well and give each book a hard eye. After all, I do plan on moving in a year, and books are HEAVY.

It unfortunately won't unless we get out of the Knoxville area, but that's okay. :) I do wish the area would get a better shop, though!

I feel so much better about my TBR pile of 37 books. I have a week-long vacation scheduled for early October, wherein I hope to do nothing but read. (Last year I managed to read four books! And do a lot of knitting and watched football. But! Four!

Then I promptly bought six books. ;-)

A) I love the idea for next year about using books from your slushpile for the book club selections. Very cool!

B) I just got done reading Kitty and the House of Horrors and really liked it! I was going to get Kitty Goes to War, too, but the books were torn at the front. It made me sad. lol.

I absolutely HATE it when I get damaged books, even if it's just a little tear!

Kitty's House of Horrors was fascinating to me from the standpoint that it's the first of the series that kind of has a stand-alone horror feel to it, you know?

Oh, me too! I hate when I order them online and the jacket is torn. Grr.

Yeah, it was like an Agatha Christie novel, except with a lot more blood and supernatural characters. Hahah. And it brought back Grant, which was awesome, because I love him.

I like those Kitty books, too. I bought both of those at the same time and read them back to back while on vacation.

I wonder how long my TBR pile list would be, even if I only included those books I really intend to read.

Like you, I have too many unread anthologies laying around. 365shortstories was supposed to cure some of that, but instead I just keep buying more. I will say, in my defense, that most of the anthologies I buy are intended to be read cover to cover. The only time I buy an entire anthology just for one story is if the book contains a Dresden Files story. *grin*

Bold of you to count your TBR pile. I'm pretty sure mine is in the 365 or more category. I used to be a bookseller, so I've got a few promo copies, but actually my bookselling days slowed down my buying rate significantly.

Here's the upside. Jane Yolen said at a con that you can't die as long as you've got books that you own that you still haven't read.

Got that? You're immortal. Jane Yolen said it so it's got to be true. ;)

I might be joining you on the Nalo Hopkinson. I have some of her work, but not sure if that's the anthology I have. I think mine is Mojo.
