Claudia O'Keefe had a very intense novelette in April's issue of The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction this year; "The Moment of Joy Before." I disliked it for its subject matter. I loved it for the story's foundation.

Also noting that I enjoyed that particular issue of F&SF as well.
